Hello everyone,

First post here, but I lurk a bit on this site.If yall could please provide some advice or insight that would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

But I'm kind of stressed out and worried about my buddy. My cat's name is Gio, and he is a 2 year old short-hair domestic kitty. Anyways, he started hissing and puffing today randomly, not at me or anyone. He would then let out a long kind of deep cry and lick his butt  A LOT. Obviously, this drew my attention. I immediately started scanning the internet for advice on what to do, and along with what could be the potential problem. Obviously, this led to me getting a bit more scared since there could be SO MANY problems with him like (Urinary tract issues, cancer, Feline Hypesthesia, etc). So I was able to get him to a Vet an hour later. She said that he needed his Anal glands expressed, so she went back to the treatment center to do so. She came back and there was a lot of fluid and were pretty swollen. However, there was no infection.

So what I am worrying about is are those little Anal Glands still sore? Is that why he is still occasionally hissing and snorting. Does this affect the amount he pees and poops also? Also I took his litter pee and poop clumps to the Vet as well, but she just glanced at them and said they were fine.

He hissed and snorted at me 2 weeks ago, but I thought it was just maybe because I did not play with him that much that day. He also never hissed and snorted again till today, which I thought was strange.

Sorry for the long post, but I am pretty stressed out.

Thanks for any and all help.

I read a comment somewhere from a Vet (seemed somewhat reputable) just now, that it is normal for a cat to still be in some discomfort after having his or her glands expressed.

So I once again I am probably overthinking/worrying ha.

The occasional hissing sounds normal to me. I once had my cat's anal glands expressed and boy she did not like it! So I would imagine that the glands area is still sore. Also, most cats hate vet visits and might act off for a while afterwards. My cats usually hide for a few hours after a dreaded visit. I would keep an eye on it and take the cat back in if it doesn't get better or worsens. Also, you should feel free to contact your vet. You paid to have your cat taken care of and you should feel comfortable asking follow up questions. Good luck!
