I would like to feed the more expensive brands of cat food. The Petsense in my small town periodically has deep discounts on near expired dry food . Is it safe to feed cats near or expired dry food? I would have to switch brands frequently also. Is it ok to feed a variety of dry food?

Absolutely! Even the all natural, no preservatives stay fresh for months after the suggested mfr's expiration date.

However, I think it's too hard on their system to be switched around often, you should always do a full week of gradual switch, so if you can do that and purchase the food a week before running out I'd say go for it.

I'm not sure why you think that @CowAndChicken3?  I've looked into this myself and have come to the conclusion that the expiry date is very generous and almost always there are a couple of months leeway at the very least.  Is there dry food you know that isn't like that?

Just watch out for meal moths if it is not a grain free food. You will see bits of very fine web inside the bag and sometimes, tiny little pin prick holes in the bag itself.

You can keep dry food in an air tight container in the fridge or freezer to make it last longer.
