...with the cats...
i had to think about this question for a bit.

i'm not sure i'd call these beliefs/experiences spiritual, but they are very moving and positive experiences that i've had.

my mickey, snick's litter mate brother, was the great love of my life. losing him was very very hard on both snick and me. i believe in the Rainbow Bridge, and it helps to comfort me to think of our mickey there and waiting for snick and me. i do sometimes talk to mickey still, this also brings me comfort. mickey was a very loving and affectionate boy, in a different way than snick is. i had been missing my mickey's affection after he crossed the bridge. i'd thought about adopting another cat, for a companion for snick as well as myself. but i had decided that with snick's medical issues i didn't want to risk undue stress on her and felt it best that i keep money matters more focused/available for her medical needs. then one day i got a call from an adoption coordinator at a shelter that i'd talked with several times before. she told me about a cat who was unhappy in his foster home and that they had no other fosters who could give him what he was needing, and she asked if i would consider adopting him -- no adoption fee would be charged. i replied that i didn't feel comfortable taking on the care and financial responsibility in adopting another cat (with snick having medical needs), and asked if they/the shelter would consider allowing me to foster him. they agreed, and what started as fostering became adopting after a careful integration with my snick. our jaspurr is purrfectly suited for both snick and me. he loves us both (and snick and i love jaspurr), is very gentle with snick, and he's a very affectionate boy -- which is something that i was missing/longing for. and i believe, in my mind i know for certain, that our mickey chose jaspurr for us. i never could have chosen a better match for snick and me.

about 6 years ago i lost my dad. since then i do occasionally talk to him (in my mind), which i find comforting. now i'm not a big believer in 'signs' or horoscopes, astrology, etc -- though i do believe in 'possibilities', and try to keep an open mind. many times when i'm working on goals or figuring out how to get something accomplished, i'll talk to my dad and ask what he thinks i ought to do -- as in, if the plan i put together is a good idea. now, i don't get an answer but i've gotten enough 'indications' in very subtle ways that point me in good directions that i believe that either my dad or the 'powers that be, up there' (or both) are looking out for me. i've wondered at times if i could be seeing 'signs' in things where there really isn't any 'sign', and i've thought back looking at whether the good things in my life that have come from me following those subtle 'indications' could simply be the results of my efforts. i've come to the conclusion that while i do work hard towards my plans and the goals i set, i seem to have benefited greatly from those 'signs' pointing me in good directions.
