I need a new pair of walking sneakers. The toe next to my big toe on my left foot seems to be cramming itself into the tip of the shoe and it hurts. In fairness, these shoes are about 18 months old, so it's way past time for new shoes. I do this all the time; wait way too long for new shoes. The ones I have now are Brooks Dyad 7:  http://www.marathonsports.com/produ...t=1049328577&gclid=CMzy75mRjcgCFYgYHwodTqsDTg They're OK, they used to be really comfortable. but not so much anymore, esp in the toe area on both feet, although my left foot seems to be worse than my right foot as far as the discomfort. I think my feet have widened out a bit with age as well as gotten a bit longer. Last time I went in for new sneakers, the guy told me that I wait entirely too long for new ones, that I should be buying new walking sneakers about every 500-600 miles.

I like the Brooks Dyad shoes and this is actually my second pair. But they're dull. I want something with funky colors for a change. My last pair was grey and teal. These are a grey with yellow. I don't really want all-white because I walk in snow and they'll get ugly quickly. But there has to be something better than grey! I want color.

I'm thinking about going back to Nike. Years ago, I had a pair of Nike Pegasus that I just loved and am still wearing to mow grass and garden. So comfortable and easy to walk in. But then I started having leg problems, so I figured I'd best get measured properly and get a good pair of shoes. That's how I ended up with Brooks. I do like the fit....but hate the colors. No New Balance shoes, I have a pair in the closet and every single time I wear those things, I end up falling flat on my face. I don't know why, but the toes tend to dig in and I fall. I wear walking sneakers only for walking. I don't wear them to the mall or for shopping or gardening or anything else. They are strictly for walking.

So....all you walkers, what shoes are you wearing right now? And do you like them? What would you recommend?

I have these and love them. They are not traditional walkers but they are really comfortable. Some of the reviewers use them as walkers and for work use also. I'm on my second pair. DD has a pair, too.

Edited to add- i think I'm going to have to order another pair from JCP. They are on sale for $49.99 and there is a coupon code for $10 off $25 or more (TENOFF25) and free shipping to the store over $25. $39.99 is a good deal for these

AISCS. Expensive but really well made and super comfy.

I see an orthopedist due to my gait getting messed up after my most recent knee surgery. I developed a "Tailor's Bunion" (bunionette, really small; it's actually a dislocation of the area below the pinky toe meets the side of the foot)

A sneaker with a wide toe box, and good flexibility is key.  The sneaker should be able to bend, shouldn't be stiff and also needs good support.

There was a list of recommended shoes/sneaker he gave me and AISCS was right at the top.  Pricey but a life saver for me.

EDIT: I was also advised NOT to buy a walking shoe but, a training type.  Doctor said the walkers really aren't as good for the feet as they are made out to be.

I switch to new ones once I see significant wear on the bottom. If I don't, my knees start to bother me. I'm currently using Nike and Fila ones.

I just ordered a new pair of walking sneakers but I don't walk as an exercise.  I will wear them for errands and as everyday shoes.  They are not a name brand and I just got them yesterday so haven't even tried them on yet with socks.

My feet also are larger than they were a couple of years ago. As long as they are comfortable I'll be happy.

Bought a pair of Brooks Adrenaline GTS 15 shoes tonight. I used to take a size 8.5. Well, I had my feet measured and they were between a 9 and 9.5. I tried on a pair of 9s and they were tight in the toe area. I had to go with a pair of 9.5s. They fit much better. Grey with royal blue stripes. I like them. They had a neat pair of red and pink ones with some purple. Had they had them in my size, they would have been mine! Alas, the largest size they had in that style was 8.5. Still new shoes are always good.

They were on sale. No way did I pay that much for them.

It really depends on the shape of your feet. New Balance was highly recommended by some friends when I first started running, but they don't fit my feet at all. I've tried several different brands and found that Asics are the best fit for me.

I do well with New Balance running shoes (for walking!) too.  My feet got wider and flatter after having kids; so I really have to try on shoes to find what fits.  I'm also just beyond what most stores carry stock in.  I had my foot measured at the Stride Rite store because they are so good with the kid's shoe fittings.  They told me to get an 11!!  What size I need really depends on the shoe.  I have one pair that are 10 wide and the other are 11 standard width.  It's really a pain to find shoes; especially non-sneakers.  I love clarks!  But stores don't usually carry the bigger sizes.  I'm dreading the end of sandal season for that reason.  Last year I wore my New Balance sneakers a lot. My feet were happy.

DH and my Aunt both swear by New Balance.  Both are on their feet all day.  I used to do well in Nikes too.
