So there is a small scab on my Charlie's(my fur baby) neck. I just took off his flea collar about two days ago and it was there. It hasn't gotten worse and it doesn't seem to bother him when I touch it. It doesn't seem like he is shedding any more then usual.Any ideas of what it could be.

It could be the flea collar.  The consensus is that flea collars should not be used any more, and that a spot on monthly treatment like advantage, revolution or frontline are much preferred.  I would carefully examine him for more sores.  If more show up or this doesn't resolve soon i would see a vet.

I think Stephen hit the nail on the head about it being the collars. We use Frontline/Advantage drops if we have to (the stuff works really good but there are horror stories of cats having bad reactions to it.) Our little cat actually had a bad reaction to Frontline (was salivating extremely heavily while running around the house yowling all crazily), luckily just washing his neck off with Dawn soap was enough to snap him back to normal pretty quickly. I guess Im saying just make sure you get your dosage right/make sure your cats don't lick each other. That and keep a close eye on them until the solutions all soaked in (a few hours).

Its also worth asking, did your cat have fleas bad before getting the collar on? I know the back of the neck is one of their favorite places on cats, so some scabs wouldn't be surprising if he had them bad enough. Honestly though I'd lean more towards it being the collar itself. Maybe look into a different brand/switching to the liquid drops?

He did have fleas before but a while ago. He was still a kitten when he had them now he is over a year old. This was a different flea collar then I had used other times... I've been checking the scab every day and it doesn't look like it's getting any worse. Needless to says the flea collar has been trashed.

Ah, if it was that long ago I really doubt it is from the fleas. Sounds like your on the right track having trashed the collar though, now its just a matter of finding a better product (Id also wait until his neck is healed up before using any other flea products.) As long as the scab keeps getting better I bet kitty is fine, just keep a close eye on him and keep us updated. Hope this was helpful!

Yeah pretty much what Stephen said. Its one of those things that is a good thing to ask your vet about, likewise if you aren't going to/are unable to go to a vet just make sure to really research the product & ingredients and then use your best judgement on whether or not you think its safe. I myself tend to steer clear of most store bought things like this just because I feel for every good product like this there is an equal number of useless/possibly harmful products out there (again though, if I research it and am ok with what I find I'll use it.) Also Id see if its made in China, not saying that immediately would make me not use it but...well...that'd pretty much immediately make me not use it.

Oh and as a side note I wouldn't trust the Petsmart people: not saying they would intentionally lie/do something to hurt your pet but at the same time they could very well make a claim without really knowing what they are talking about which could wind up to hurt your fluffy friend (kinda the same thing for takeing advice on the internet lol.)
