Does anyone know how long feline parasites live outside the body? My one cat passed away and I am not sure from what and I don't want my other cat to get it. If you have any information please let me know.

It depends on the virus or bacterion (some can survive longer than others); as for FIP, some vets recommend a six weeks long quarantine before you get another cat. Fortunately (and this is the only good news about FIP) only 5-10% of the cats that come into contact with Corona virus will develop FIP in their life (it's very frequent the case of two siblings of which one dies of FIP, while the other one gets old showing no signs of the illness, despite living in the same house and having used the same bowls or litter tray). As a precaution, I advise you to get a new litter box/tray as the Corona virus is generally eliminated through faeces.

Two more clarifications: the FIP pathogen is a virus, not a parasite. Viruses are unable to reproduce outside a "guest" they infect and whose cells they hijack in order to force them to replicate viral RNA instead of their own genetic code. This makes their survival in the environment much shorter than that of microbes, bacteria, protozoa...
I used the word "quarantine" improperly, meaning the period one should remain catless in order to be sure that the new kitties are not infected by the FCOV: I wasn't referring to a possible isolation of the ill cat from other housecats.

I hope someone else will soon join this thread and give their opinion.
