The old food was Kit n Kaboodle (IIRC). In fact my cat threw up several times sad to say. Now shes eating 9 Lives and I havent seen any indigestion issues yet. I guess Im asking if your cats like 9 Lives as much as mine does currently.

I'm glad your cat is off Kit n Kaboodle. If you look at the ingredients I"m sure its garbage.

Are you feeding 9 Lives dry food?  Look at the ingredients.  First ingredient is probably corn , wheat or some sort of garbage that cats shouldn't be eating.

Do you feed wet food?   Please look for food with meat as the main ingredient.

If you need suggestions please ask.

Food with chicken meal or even chicken-by-product meal first are much higher in animal protein than even those that use chicken as the main ingredient. Here is a quote from the Dog Food Advisor, the pet food bible:

"The first ingredient in this dog food is chicken. Although it is a quality item, raw chicken contains about 80% water. After cooking, most of that moisture is lost, reducing the meat content to just a fraction of its original weight.
After processing, this item would probably account for a smaller part of the total content of the finished product.
The second ingredient is chicken meal. Chicken meal is considered a meat concentrate and contains nearly 300% more protein than fresh chicken."

Even though this is dog food, the processes are the same for cat food ingredients.

Nine Lives is questionable because their canned food lists just 'Meat' as the protein ingredient. This indicates literally any meat source, from downer (diseased) cattle to roadkill or even euthanized pets. Always avoid foods that do not name a specific animal in the ingredient, like Animal Fat instead of Chicken Fat, or Meat Meal instead of Chicken Meal.

After a quick scan of the dry Nine Lives, I see they use whole ground corn, chicken by-product meal, and corn gluten as the first three ingredients. This means the food is mostly corn, which is not good for cats and can cause allergies. I would look for a better food, something with chicken meal or even chicken by-product meal as the first ingredient.

The Dog Food Advisor site is great because it explains what every ingredient in pet food really is and how it is sourced and processed. There is no Cat Food Advisor (yet), but if a company makes a quality dog food, they will likely make a good cat food, too. Some ingredients are truly gross and scary (like the animal meal thing-yuck) and knowing how the ingredients are sourced can help with food buying decisions.

Cats need a diet heavy in animal proteins, not plant proteins. In the wild, they eat meat exclusively. You'll never see a cat in the wild going for corn, wheat, rice or any other grains. Pet food companies use grains because they are cheap and are often give-away waste from the milling industry. The corn gluten in the Nine Lives is used to bolster the protein numbers on the side of the bag, but it has no nutritional value for a cat.

With any food switch, always do it gradually. Otherwise, it can make your cat sick. Start with 3/4 dish of the old food and 1/4 of the new. Slowly increase the amount of new food and decrease the amount of the old. This can take as little as a week or up to a month. Watch the litterbox for diarrhea and when the poop looks good and solid, start using more of the new food in your mix.

Edit: While I was typing, you added that you use wet food. :) That is good, much better than dry, but I would still look for another brand. Friskies pates are pretty cheap and a step up from Nine Lives. That's what we use. Switching canned foods usually doesn't require as much of a gradual change as the dry does.

I seriously suggest getting your cats off of any 9Lives food, whether it's wet or dry. I've owned a lot of cats and my cats always react badly to their food.
