I noticed my cat straining throughout the house on Saturday and brought him to the vet right away. He was diagnosed with FLUTD stayed in the vet overnight, they gave him an iv and an epidural to get him to pee. That worked and he came home the next day. He came home with a sedative, and a muscle relaxer. He did not pee at all when he came home several strains throughout all 3 litter boxes. Monday morning we woke up to him sleeping on the kitchen floor in a puddle of urine so his bladder must have released itself during the night. All day Monday and on Sunday after he got home he was vomiting, he has a very sensitive stomach and once or twice a week he will throw up after he eats when he eats to much or two fast. He is only getting worse since coming home. He hasn't eaten since Sunday, and drank a little water this morning (Tuesday) but he has not tried to go to the bathroom that we can see. We are thinking of cutting out the sedative hoping he will get up and not be so lethargic. We are also considering not giving him the muscle relaxer and antibiotic (the antibiotic was given as a precaution as the tests to see if he has an infection are not in yet). We are hoping if we do not give him these drugs it will make his stomach calmer as he has been vomiting bile since yesterday, and hopefully he will eat a little more. We are really hesitant to bring him back to the vet as hospitalizing him over the weekend was very expensive and we cannot afford to do that again. We also do not want to bring him back to the vet as they said his condition is most likely caused by stress and he HATES the carrier and the car so we do not want to add to his stress by bringing him back. Anytime I have called the vet back about it she wants me to bring him back, but we cannot afford another $1,700 night in the hospital for him.
We also think the initial cause of the stress came from two reasons. 2 weeks ago my fiancé found a stray kitten about 6 days old and brought him home, we have been bottle feeding him and keeping him isolated from my cat, but as soon as we brought the kitten into the home we brought our cat to get updated shots. So we think it is a combination of the new kitten/going to the vet for shots that stressed him. We have found a home for the kitten and he will be leaving tonight so we are hoping that may help him as well.
