About to get my first kitten, and looked for a wet food without carrageenan or guar gum, I came up with Weruva's Paw lickin' chicken. I looked up how many kcals are in a 5.5 oz can and it only says 103 which look a bit low, how much should I feed him (he's barely three months old)?

Usually the rule of thumb with kittens is to feed several times a day, small amounts (tiny tummies) but as much as they want.  This is what I've noticed on several canned foods (not specifically Weruva) under the feeding guidelines.

Here is what Weruva has to say about feeding adult cats:

Also, Weruva's Truluxe Peking Ducken (chicken / duck) is guar gum free also as is Weruva's Nine Lives (chicken / liver).

Congratulations on your new kitty. :)

Personally I would not feed only Weruva to a kitten, because it is very low calorie and they need a lot of food for their size. It could be hard for them to take in enough calories. If you mix it or alternate it with something higher calorie your kitten won't have to eat quite so much.

Have you looked at Tiki Cat? Some of their flavors are also carrageenan & gum free, and similar to Weruva, but higher in calories.

I agree about looking into feeding some other, more caloric, foods along with Weruva. Weruva has lots of good foods but -- in addition to the calorie question -- it's good to introduce multiple brands, protein sources, and textures. (We feed some Weruva to our active, young adult cats, though mostly from Cats in the Kitchen, which are a little higher in calories but have gums.) Lots of cats (including our two) are choosy about their foods and demand quite a bit of variety, which can be a challenge, so it's great to get them used to different kinds of foods early on.

Welcome to The Cat Site and congratulations on your kitten!
Have fun!

I feed different varieties of Weruva to my kittens including paw lickin chicken. But it mix it with Wellness Kitten pate so that its higher in calories. I agree with others not to feed it solo.
