Will my black kitten lose these little white hairs?

I have a black DSH and, as a kitten, he had sporadic white hairs on his legs, feet and belly.  As he grew, they did seem to all disappear at about 3-4 months. However, as he got to be about 6 months (he's just 18 months now), I noticed a very slight silvery-white patch on his belly (bikini area) and it is still there. The only time I really notice it is when he is on his back with all four feet spayed wide.

The Bombay is probably the only breed that is truly solid black (possibly the black Burmese?).

Coloring is dependent upon lineage. Both parents would need to be solid black to produce a solid black cat. While my cat is 99% black in appearance, I know that his mother was a tabby and his father is unknown, and his brother was an orange tabby (he was the result of 'stray' parents and was born in a neighbor's garage). Any mixed breed can have variances in their coloring, whether prominent or muted.

Even after your kitten loses his random white hairs, there is the possibility of him showing some underlying indications of his lineage. In the right light (usually bright sunlight) you might detect some very muted tabby striping if either of his parents carried that trait. My cat doesn't have this. Also, usually in the summer, if your black cat is exposed to direct sunlight (either an outdoor cat or one who likes to stretch out on the window sill) you might notice him showing some brown or rusty coloring to his fur. This is due to the sun bleaching his hair (like human hair gets highlights in the summer). This almost always reverts back to the dark black as winter approaches.

This was Keeker's first summer as an adult cat and he did get a little bit of rusty coloring, but I could only see it when he was in direct sunlight. I've posted pics of him showing the patch on his belly, with the rusty coloring showing while he was laying in a patch of sunlight, and one that shows his usual coloring of deep black.

At first, I was disappointed that Keeker had this 'stupid patch' on his belly, but now I know it would help identify him should he ever become lost or stolen.

Having a black cat is great! You might want to read through the posting listed under 'The Cats Meow' section about Halloween and the dangers it could present.

I hope this helped. And post pictures if you can!

I have a long hair black male and I'm curious if we will shed these little white hairs to be a complete black ?
Hey i see you're from Hamilton, i have friends there!

Cat's fur color rarely changes so if he has a few white hairs now they are likely to more or less continue.....

How old is he?

I can see the random little white hairs on his front leg. Keeker had those for the first several months. I'm not real sure what happened to them (or why?) but they are all gone and, as I said above, he is now all black with the exception of his silvery bikini patch ... and I have grown to love it! Especially when he flips on his back and shows it off.
