Has anyone come across this before? My cat (13 years old) has recently been showing a brownish reddish sort of tear I've never seen before, and seems to be watering often. From what I have read before, it's isn't serious, but I wanted to see if anyone has ever seen it or had this issue. Most recently she's gotten that spot on her nose, in the past I've seen this kind of come and go, and I've always just kind of thought she scraped her nose, but now I'm not so sure. I went and bought her this supplement called Angel Eyes, that is supposed to help for tear staining, and it has seemed to help, and make her tears clearer, and less of the darker colors. Has anyone else come across this? The top two pictures are of the colored tears, and the spot on her nose , the bottom picture is what she looked like without . Thank you!

There could be a number of causes, from a mild infection to Feline Herpes Virus, which often shows as eye watering and nose problems, with brownish discharge. It is difficult to diagnose so I would take her to the vet.

I'm actually more concerned with that spot on her nose.  I'd definitely take her in to be checked, especially if that spot comes and goes.  Be sure to tell the Vet that.

My cat is a former feral and has feline herpes.  Before it was under control, he used to get a LOT of reddish brown discharge from his eyes - so much that it would sometimes make its way down to his nose, so that he would have some staining on his nose as well as around his eyes.  That is what the spot on your cat's nose looks like to me is the outline of some staining that the cat has managed to partly clean up.  My boy's herpes symptoms are under control with daily use of Viralys L-Lysine powder that I add to his wet food.  It is horribly stinky (like bad seafood), but he seems to enjoy it in his food.  Maybe run this product by your vet when you talk to them.  Good luck!

There is no way of knowing WHAT it might be, and if it's seriious or not.  I wasn't thinking the tearing was serious, and figured the nose thing was possibly a fungus of some sort.  I DO like the above poster's thoughts though.  That would be GREAT if that's what it is.
