If I had done something and taken it more seriously back when she had started vomiting here and there, for seemingly no reason, she would likely have not gotten the thickened intestinal wall and so much inflammation.
This is so important! I'm glad you're catching this now, @Ty3535!

We knew absolutely nothing about IBD when our cat started having sporadic symptoms--also when she was around eight--and, unfortunately, her vets didn't know much more about it than we did and she gradually got worse over the years. (She lived a pretty long life, she was at least 17, despite everything!) If a vet brushes off the symptoms (anything from hairballs to overgrooming), find another vet, preferably a cat specialist.
It's been a journey to me at least, trying this and that but first figure out what all is in your cats curent food now.

Fish we know, is it really just about all fish?

If so that will be much easier to work out.
It was really helpful for me to keep a diary of Brooksie's food, vomiting, and litter box activity. Pretty much anything can cause IBD but for her it seemed to be grains and fish.

Is there an ingredient in the new food that your cat hadn't eaten before?

Good luck!

It's a seafood and tomato bisque, and he's never had tomato before. I also had given him a tad of tuna juice which I have never done. I think I'll try cutting those two things out and see how it goes. The other odd thing is that this only happens at night.

Hmm, yes, tomato might be the answer. Here's hoping!

Well we went to the vet today. He vomitrd again, last night and again this morning. Last night looked to have blood in it. This morning it was a little frothy. They're doing x rays, blood work, urinalysis and have given him anti nausea medication along with something to line his stomach. I'm so nervous. He's acting completely normal except for the throw up of course. I keep reading things like kidney and liver disease all have vomitinh and now I'm in full panic mode.

The worst thing any of us can do is start googling...........it will scare everyone and cause unnecessary panic/anxiety!

I think it's IBD. This usually takes an ultrasound to confirm.

Panic won't change a thing, but will cause your cat to pick up on it and unneeded stress on him too.

I agree with catwoman707 in thinking it's probably IBD, a disease that can behave so irrationally! Fingers crossed that you're able to get a diagnosis soon and straighten him out!

I'm going to throw another possibility out there.  Pardon me if it's already been mentioned; I'm at work and just scanning the answers.

It's possible your kitty is having dental issues.  Our older cat was throwing up quite a bit and each time we had his teeth cleaned (and a few removed too) the throwing up stopped completely.  Right now, he's post his 2nd treatment and once again, not a single time has he barfed since he had the dental done.

Pain can make them react in different ways.  Perhaps have your vet check your cat's teeth, just in case.

You're right, I definitely should not have googled. The only upside it that he has absolutely zero other symptoms. I hope an ultrasound can diagnose IBD-I read something that said only a biopsy of the stomach lining could confirm it. I'm also not looking forward to having to put him on a prescription diet-he used to be on hills c/d for urinary crystals and it caused him to gain weight and I wasn't thrilled with the ingredients as he eats high protein grain free quality food right now.

Biopsy is not needed to diagnose IBD.

A biopsy would be done if there was suspected lymphoma, then that is the only true way of telling the difference.

I don't think you need to worry about that now.

IBD doesn't require prescrip food, it requires a grain free, limited ingredient food that's source of protein is one he has not been eating.

In my former post I talked about what I have Krissy eating now, only turkey foods, she was reacting to chicken and fish which she had eaten her entire life.

Something happens and their system just decides to start reacting to what they have eaten fine for years, so the key is a complete switch so that the reacting stops.

The vet called and the good news is all of his blood work, kidney, liver ect. Came back normal. However on the X-ray she saw a small object by his kidney that looks too odd shaped to be a stone and thickening of his stomach lining. She's saying it could be caused from the vomiting but it could also be a Tumor or foreign object. He's going for an ultrasound tomorrow to hopefully find out what's causing this.

Thank you for the update -- I hope the ultrasound goes well and you're able to get some answers soon.
