Our cat Bash has an infection in his right eye. It was red two days ago but last night, it was bulging and it has pus and other watery substances. We put human eye drop in his eye two times last night. We tried to clean it but we don't know if the bulging part is dirt or his cornea or a part of his eye. When I woke up this morning, his right eye was bigger and it was red. It was really bulging and it still has discharge and pus. We just want to know what his sickness is so we can know how to treat it and what medicine to give. We tried to convince our aunt to bring it to the vet but she doesn't want to because she doesn't want to spend. What should we do? Please help. We dont know how to clean it because we think the bulging part is his eye. Thanks!!! PLEASE HELP ASAP! We dont want him to suffer and we dont want him to die too so we're planning to let others adopt him, the ones who are able to bring him to the vet. But as of now, we just want temporary treatment.

Do not use human eye drops with any medicine in it on your cat !!! If your aunt is not going to take the cat to the vet like she should, purchase "saline" only drops for the eye or something called "liquid tears" it comes in a liquid and gel the gel is better. NO VISINE!!! What you may be seeing is a reaction to the drops that were put in. Please convince your aunt to take the cat to a vet!!

You must get that cat to the vet. This happened to two of my rescues, they had eye conditions that progressed quickly overnight. Both of them had to have the affected eye removed. If she does nothing, the infection can spread to the brain. At a minimum, the cat may end up partially or totally blind. At worst, the cat could die.

Most vets will work on a payment plan if necessary, especially with an emergency condition like this. Very urgent to get that kitty to the vet.

I agree. You need to take that cat to a Vet now...I mean today. Not tomorrow. Find an emergency Vet who is open 24/7.

I thought my guy just had scratch. Took him to the Vet and was told that eye issues get bad very fast. It can lead to blindness.

I had to use eyedrops for 10 days, antibiotic, animal safe ones from the Vet. This was for just a tiny corneal scratch!

Please do no use human eye drops on your cat. Please go to the Vet to get the proper treatment.

and keep us updated....

Please, please, please do what you can to get this cat to a vet now.  No delay.  He is very sick and I agree with juleska, this sounds severe enough that the vet may have to remove one or both eyes even now, and the infection sounds like it is getting worse quickly.   Your cat will be in a huge amount of pain and feeling very sick, and this will not get better without seeing a vet.

I'm so sorry that you don't have the ability to care for your kitty as you would like? :(

How are your sisters planning on putting him down without going to the vet?

Thank you for loving your cat, maybe you can contact the vets in your area and explain and see if they know of rescues that could help him. Please don't take him to a "pound or kill shelter", he may wait days before certainly being euthanized.

What a tough spot to be in, I'm truly sorry :hugs:

My sister will take him to the vet to euthanize him but I don't know when because the cat is my cousin's. She is the one who'll decide when. I am just really hoping that he'll survive because I know he's a fighter, but if we wait for days, he might suffer from excruciating pain and I dont want that to happen. I searched for non-government organizations that accept and treat sick pets like Bash, but all of them told me that they don't accept pets especially because they also don't have sufficient funds and space for the rescued pets that are already in their care. I don't see any other options but I really want him to be treated. He's very young and he is so active and playful, I don't want to give him up yet. I was hoping for him to die of old age not like this. It's a petty reason for him to die. And I know that if we only take him to the vet, he'll survive even if his right eye becomes blind. It's very difficult knowing that he'll survive if I only have the money. But I'm still underage and I don't have the ability to decide and take actions in my own hands. I feel so sorry about Bash and I don't want to lose him :'( But I really can't do anything :(((

I don't want to euthanize him, I'm really hoping he'll survive. I just want to know what diseases he is suffering from so I can maybe buy some medicine and take care of him. But the bad part is I know it's gonna be impossible for him to survive if it's just home treatment. I'm really not happy with euthanasia because what if he's gonna live? I dont want to put him to sleep. Is it possible if we would just wait for him to die while giving him medicines to make him numb from the pain? I dont know what else to do..

My heart is breaking for you and that baby. :(

I know it's frustrating to not have any power in a situation because of age. :hugs:

Will your sister get him to the vet on Monday morning? Please urge her to get him there ASAP as the eye is surely painful.

I've heard of vets who decide to treat a pet rather than euthanizing them, although they will be surrendered to the vet. Maybe there is hope that his life won't end here, but he needs to be free of his pain and I know you are trying.
Again, I'm so sorry you are going through this.

The biggest thing here is how painful eye injuries are, just because cats dont cry and whine when they are hurting like we do, it hurts JUST as much!

It is their instinct to not show pain, they are still feeling it the same as we would.

Imagine how much his eye hurts him!

I am shocked to hear that your sisters are willing to pay for this poor suffering cat to be euthanized, yet won't pay for him to be treated! Treatment is likely cheaper!

This cat's eye is only going to get worse and worse, more and more painful, and for every day the care he needs is put off, the more permanent the damage is going to likely be.

No, he will not die a slow torturous death from this, he will just suffer terribly every minute or every day, hoping the pain will stop.

Do you have any friends who's parents might be willing to help get him to a vet?? Offer to work the money off, yard work, anything.

Anyone, anywhere.

Can you post a picture so I can see where his eye swelling is?

This is your cousin's cat? Where is she/he with this??

Can you take a photo of the cat's eye? I just can't handle the cat being put to sleep for something there may be a small chance it can be helped at home or a chance the suffering can be eased in the meantime. It stinks that she will pay for a vet visit for getting rid of this kitty but not to help it with its eye that's just not right. The kitty needs a vet but at this point it looks like a vet visit is turning into a bad thing. Ugh!!!

If money is the issue, you cn probably do a GO FUND ME page and get help.  Someone else did that recently and she got the money to take care of her cat in a day or two.  It was amazing.

It's not a popular option but allowing an animal to suffer with an untreated medical condition is considered abuse in most places now. I finally used this option with some relatives who were abusing some livestock. I have a low tolerance to animal abuse.

I don't understand - your sister / cousin is willing to pay a vet to euthanize the cat but can't afford to pay for treatment?

There are suggestions here on how to afford vet care: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/155462/cant-afford-a-vet-please-read Many vets offer payment plans or financial aid of some sort. Yoour sister / cousin can ask the vet. Also look into low cost vet clinics, not the spay/neuter ones but a regular vet clinic.

There are no OTC medicines sold in pet stores that you can use to treat the cat's eye. Only a vet can diganose what the exact problem is and treat it properly. Trying to treat it yourself will make the problem worse and may cause further pain to the cat.

Please keep us posted Lorena. Many of us here have had to deal with chronic eye conditions. if you can take a photo it will be helpful. we may have some suggestions to at least ease the cat's eye condition until something is decided.

Tell whoever is responsible for that cat to get him to the vet tonight or you'll report them for animal abuse. Stand your ground. Sounds like you're the only hope he has. If the cousin has left him in your family's care without a way to contact him/her in an emergency, then (please someone correct me if I'm wrong) he or she can't complain if you get the cat care that THE COUSIN is then responsible for paying/paying you back for. Just please help that little cat. Sounds like your the cat's only advocate, Lorena, and thank you for being that - stand firm.

You don't know what else to do?????? Lorena, please! We thank you for coming here and wanting advice on helping this poor kitty but in your heart of hearts, I think you know what is best. Take this cat to a vet immediately, tonight, asap. Relinquish the cat to the vet and let them decide his fate. There IS NO OTHER CHOICE. This is a very, very VERY serious and painful condition. Do not wait, the cat is suffering terribly and if this is ignored, then it is animal cruelty and neglect.

Editing to add: Please inform your sisters that doing nothing is torture for this cat and that the eye could rupture but that Bash would not die from this. You must feel for Bash as if it were your own eye. Pure torture and he should not endure another day with this condition. period.
