So my cats used to get canned food in the morning and night and a little dry for lunch o snack on. I phased out the canned for a few reasons...budget, the cans pileing up because I couldn't get to the recycle center, we were going to go away a few weekends over the summer and it was going to be easier for someone to just come fill their bowls with dry food. Well I'm goin back to canned because my cats are always thirsty now, if my kids have a cup of water on the table the cats jump to get it, I fill their bowl up a lot but they seem to always need more. And I know it's better for them. Now I ran out of dry food and the store I get food from was closed when I was able to get to it tonight. I've given them canned once a day for just 2 days now. Is it going to up set their stomach if thy just get it 2-4 times starting tomorrow? I really didn't want to drive into town again tomorrow to get dry food, but we do have canned at home.

Ideally if you can gradually increase the amount of canned food that would be fine, however, given the alternative of having to purchase a food that you are thinking of minimizing or discontinuing altogether, I would just dive right in and use the canned food you have.

You may see a little loose stools initially but eventually you'll begin seeing smaller stools then when they were fed the kibble since dry generally has more carbs they cannot utilize = more waste.

I wouldn't be concerned about it.

At some point, if you are able, a probiotic is handy to have; it helps kitties absorb more of the nutrients from their food but also helps with digestion and stools.

I feed my cat only wet. The vet told me to take him off dry food because he had a very high creatine level ( that could lead to kidney failure) and he was fat. She told me that cats are not supposed to eat dryfood because they get dehydrated and end up with renal failure. Anyway my boy is big, he's always been big even as a kitten he was twice the size of his siblings. When we took him of kibble he weighed 26lbs, after a few months on wet he lost 6lbs and his creatine levels are good again. I also switched our little female cat to wet also but she doesn't like it so I usually put a small amount of dry own for her. Jut thought I'd share this.

You have a wise vet. :)

I'm glad kitty's weight has stabilized.
