Our poor shy Guy seems to be losing more weight. He was doing fine hold at about 13 pounds. But lately he as been losing more and is at his lowest of 12.6 pounds. He is on mostly a wet diet, 5.5 oz with 1/4 cup of dry prescription(UT) food each day. He throws up his food every now and again. He was good for about 2 weeks. Then he has thrown up a couple times this week. He almost always finishes his food.
His weight has been..
June 15, 13.3 pounds
June 22, 13.5 pounds
July 4, 13.1 pounds
July 7, 13 pounds
July 13, 13.1 pounds
July 31, 13.2 pounds
Aug 29, 13.2 pounds
Sept 10, 12.8 pounds
Sept 18, 12.6 pounds
He can't afford to lose any calories when he vomits up his food. I usually wait until the next feeding to feed him, unless he throws up the am feeding. Then i wait a few hours and give him some food.
he threw up his lunch today(18th), his breakfast on the 14th and breakfast on the 12th. So this has been a bad week. Before that was august 30th (breakfast) then before that was August 12th breakfast and last meal of the day. Then July 28th.
as i read this it almost looks like his vomiting is causing him to lose weight. Does anyone else think so?
i have tried so many thing to make sure he keeps his food down. Cat lax for hairballs, as those are sometimes a problem, feeding him on schedule as not to upset him or his stomach producing bile, making sure his food is not to thin. Or he eats to fast and throws up.
heck the other morning dd and i were talking on how he woke her up the other morning and wouldnt let her sleep. I said to him, "were you being a bad boy shy guy" and he threw up. Ok call me crazy but i think sometimes they sense things and thats what upsets him
One thing i have always noticed is its the wet food he throws up. i know in the past the cats have all thrown up their dry food to. But mostly its the wet food, is there a reason for that?
Do you think he is at the point of needing medicine for his vomiting? I never thought so but it seems some weeks/months are worse then others. Why is it he can keep some meals down and not others?
Also what can i do to try to put weight on him?
