I noticed a week ago my cat started to pee outside of the litter box. She first peed on my bed and I just thought maybe she just couldn't make it to the litter box, after that everything seemed fine. Well two days ago she started peeing on my clothes and going into the litter box over and over, so I decided to call my vet and told them I think she may have a UTI. They told me to bring her in and they didn't do any tests, they just took what I said she was doing and said ya she has a UTI. They gave her a shot and gave me Orbax to give her everyday. It's day 2 almost 3 and she is still peeing on my clothes and now there is blood in the urine. Is it strange that they didn't even test her for anything? They only checked her heart, her breathing, her ears and teeth...I did call them about what was going on and they told me give it another day for the meds to kick in and if she isn't any better call tomorrow. I'm just confused as to why they didn't perform any tests.

Vets often don't run tests at first but try to treat the symptoms. Most pet owners are not willing to pay for tests at the first appointments and the tests can be costly.

If you are willing to pay for tests, ask for them next time.

I hope your kitty feels better soon.

If I were you I would call them back, or call a different Vet, and let them know NOW there is blood in her urine and that whatever they gave her is not helping, or not so far.  She might not even have an infection, but rather inflammation of her bladder, so the antibiotic might not help.  Do you know what the shot was?  Was it a steroid for inflammation, or for pain, or what?

Whatever, IMHO there should be some relief by now, although she may avoid the litterbox for some time as she might associate it with pain and need to be retained to use it again.  When she does go, is she going a reasonable amount, or just tiny amount each time?

She goes a tiny amount. They didn't tell me what the shots were. :/ I called them and told them it wasn't really improving and they told me give it the weekend and then she will be fine. It really sucks because I live in a small town and we only have 2 vets, this is supposed to be the best of the two....

Oh dear....well, is there nothing on your receipt telling WHAT the shots were?  I guess all you can do at this point (unless she blocks, which luckily is highly unlikely in females, is wait until Monday, and then if it's no better, take her back in and ask for some actual testing to see if it's really a UTI, or perhaps inflammation of the bladder.

In the meantime, is she eating and drinking normally.  You really want to make sure that doesn't change, especially the drinking, as fluids are very important with anything going on with the urinary system.
