We took Peter to the vet (first time using him) 2 wks ago and he said he had an upper respiratory infection and put him on 1ml of clavamox 2x a day and 4ml of prednisone 2x a day for 1 week; then once a day til gone. Peter weighs 13#.

We took him back today because he has been whining/screaming and falling over when he tries to walk. His breathing is also very rapid. He did blood work and everything was normal. No leukemia or anything like that. He said his white cell count was a little low. He didn't do an X-ray but said that his lungs sounded real congested. He put him on 1 1/4 baytril 1x a day.

What do you think we should do or request to have done?

How many milligrams of baytril ? If my cat was screaming and falling over we'd be a the vet ER.

22.7 mg of baytril. No he didn't really say much about the falling or whining. He even sat him on the floor to watch what he does and didn't say much. He's a sweet vet but hasn't been one for long

What does your gut tell you to do ?

Did he give him a shot before you left ?

Is your cat able to eat and drink ?

Baytril in an overdose can cause blindness. Your vet seems to have kept your cats dose well below the threshold for side effects. Its an excellent antibiotic if used correctly. I assume you meant 13 lbs

My gut says go to a different vet. I'm gonna take him to another one tomorrow and see what they can do for him. He didn't give him a shot or anything. He doesn't want to eat or drink. He ate a tiny bit of can food earlier but that's it. Yeah, sorry, 13 lbs

I'm sure someone with much more knowledge will come along here pretty quick. Although no one here even a vet could do a diagnosis over the internet. You know your cat best though. Can you call your vet on an emergency number ?

I do not know what may be happening to your cat, but any cat who is falling over needs to be seen by an Emergency Vet ASAP!!! I mean right now!!

Forget about your local vet...forget about waiting for another appointment....go there now...

sorry to scare you but it does sound serious....

Especially with the chest congestion.....could be a lot of things...heart failure, kidneys, pneumonia, etc....all very serious to a kitty.....

((hugs))...

please look up the closest ER Vet and go....

As in fresh out of vet school? Or a few years of experience? Newbie vets likely haven't seen or experienced a lot of complicated cases in their career yet. I also suggest taking your cat to a vet ER ASAP for treatment by a senior more experienced vet. Your location says Alabama. Here is a list of vet ERs in your state: http://www.veccs.org/index.php?option=com_hospitals&Itemid=193 You can also call your vet and ask for the location and phone number of the nearest vet ER.
