I have a female cat (less than one year old) that i found, along with two others, that someone had abandoned in a field with no food/water/shelter.  i gathered them up and brought them home.  one of the cats i brought home was pregnant so soon after their arrival, she had two kittens.  out of the five (including the two kittens) i have found good homes for all of them and am planning on keeping this one.

The female i am keeping, Verbil, has stopped eating.  The last cat i had went to her new adopted home this past Sunday.  Monday morning is when I noticed her not eating.  Previously she was more than willing to scarf down the food I gave to her, even when i got them all home from the vacant field.

I am using what little common sense i have and correlating the other cats not being here to her not eating/change in surroundings/etc.  I have found lots of info about how cats can quit eating because of differences in their surroundings.  what i can't find is how long it will last and what i can do about it.  she was malnourished when i got her home so she still does not have too much meat on her bones.  i have tried switching cat food brands, some warm chicken broth to no avail.  she will nibble on cat treats but does not seem too interested in those.  she is not acting sick and doesn't have runny eyes/nose etc, so i am reasonably certain she is not ill.  she still runs and jumps and what not like normal.

Anyone have any experience on how to rectify this or do i need to just chill out and let her start eating again at her own pace?

That's really wonderful of you to have rescued those cats, cared for them and found homes for them, thank you.

I would take Verbil to a vet.  Cats are experts at masking discomfort or illnesses, given that she was found outdoors, malnourished and is underweight, a vet visit would be your best answer.

The longer a cat goes without eating, the less inclined they are to eat.  With a "normal" cat - a cat that has not been homeless, abandoned and scavenging for food, after two days of not eating properly, they can develop hepatic lipidosis.  Who knows what is going on with Verbil, you don't know her history given that she was found.

While you are waiting to get her to the vet, you may want to try some meat baby food, chicken or turkey - *no* spices (onions are toxic) and see if she'll eat that.

A vet can also give Verbil an appetite stimulant.

Good luck and keep us posted.
