I was wondering if anyone knew of any exceptionally good cat food without all those fillers/by-products etc. My cat is 11 years old and in good health, I'd just like to keep her that way. I've heard good and bad things about Science Diet. Any other reccomendations?

Wet is much better than dry.  The only reason I feed any dry at all is because my kitten likes to snack throughout the day.  If he was an adult he would be fed all wet or wet and very little dry.  There are better foods than Science Diet and also worse foods.  I feed Science Diet but mainly because that is what is affordable to me at the moment.  I don't have any personal recommendations because I have never fed anything else (in dry food, I rotate wet), but some other people might have some.  If you are able to feed wet though, I would do that, the worst quality wet food is still better than the best quality dry.  :)

IMO the best dry food/kibble is Ziwipeak air dried, runner up being Orijen. I feed both as a snack in between wet/raw meals. I'd feed Ziwipeak exclusively as a kibble snack it if it wasn't so expensive (I have 7 cats) but i mix it with Orijen to save a little on cost. I think all cats need some wet food in their diet, though.

IMO, the "best" brand is the one that your cat will eat and you can afford and meets any criteria that you may have. There are many good brands out there.

Personally I like Nature's Variety Instinct. The food is grain-free and doesn't have by products. There are some fillers in the form of fruits and veggies but it's only a small amount. I don't feed the dry but feed the frozen raw and some canned to my cats. I have fed the original dry food to a previous cat but only briefly as I was transitioning him to canned food.

A healthier alternative to regular dry food is freeze dried or air dried raw food. These are crunchy like dry food but a lot healthier in that it's raw meat instead of meat that's been cooked. You can feed these dry or rehydrated. Nature's Variety has freeze dried raw food. Stella and Chewy's and Primal are two other popular brands. ZiwiPeak is awfully expensive for a little bag that won't last more than a few meals so I wouldn't bother buying that.

It is expensive, but its also a really good quality product. If you don't feed it exclusively, or you don't have that many cats, it will last you a decent amount of time, as one scoop is about 270 calories which is typically all or more than most cats need in a day. OP can make the decision for themselves.

I got my Benny wellness core grain free kitten food. The core grain free line has impressive ingredients.
