Thanks everyone!

Very nice, Karen! I like them!

If I may ask, how wide are your window sills? They look wide enough to hold a kitty butt. :)
Lol. They are around 6 inches and Abby loves them.

Here's a pic of her hiding behind the old curtains.

AbbysMom, I took the liberty of enhancing your photo a bit to get a better perspective. I brightened it up some and cropped off the glaring over-head light fixture.

As far as the curtains themselves, I like them. The color gives a good contrast against the light walls, complements your decor, and the pattern gives an all-around better contour to the room, as opposed to the previous stripes, which seemed to 'lower the height of the ceiling'.

I agree with SwampWitch regarding the width of the curtains. I've got my rods extended 8 inches past the window casings. This allows me to open the curtains enough to let in the light and it gives the illusion of bigger windows. It also gives the curtains room to hang without being crowded. I also set the mounting brackets for the rod 6 inches above the casings to give more height to the room.

As for the light fixture - You have a couple inexpensive options.

1. You could switch to a frosted bulb to give a 'softer' light, but retain the brightness.

2. You could easily change the fixture itself to a flush mount (I added a pic that I think would go great in your room. It is $25 at Lowe's) and that would eliminate the bright reflection off the white ceiling.

3. You could install a dimmer switch.

Nice and cozy looking @AbbysMom  .
I hope Abby is enjoying hiding behind her new curtains and hasn't tried to climb them yet.

Those look wonderful in the room!  Now see, that's a classic example of my likes/dislikes.  It isn't something that I would choose to live with in my own  home, but I appreciate and enjoy it thoroughly in someone else's home.  While I'm more comfortable living with cool colors, I so love to visit homes done in wonderful, warm, earthy tones like those.  VERY handsome curtains.

It's funny you say that because I would have never bought them before either. My last house was decorated a lot different than this one. Mostly white or beige walls, etc. I'm definitely going bolder in this house.

fyllis fyllis Thanks for your input. As I mentioned they were cell phone pics, so they weren't the best. ;) :lol3:

I've taken some pics with my regular camera. It's dark and rainy out, so they are with flash, but still a better representation of the room -

Again, excuse the cat sheets, throws, toys, etc. ;)

Our light fixture does not glare and has a frosted bulb. It was just the photo. It's perfectly fine. :)

The curtains can be pulled all the way open if I so desire and the rods extended.

When we bought the house the old rods and curtain were at least 8 inches from the windows in every room and did not look good at all. Everyone that came here mentioned it. It was one of the things we changed when we redid a room. :)

Sometimes pictures can change the way things really are. It just looked like a lot of glare on the ceiling.

And I forgot to mention earlier... I love the decorations on your mantel  - very pretty!

That's a room I could curl up in for a few hours.  It begs for a cup of coffee, hot chocolate or hot tea on a cold winter's day.  I also love the wall color.

P.S.  I'm in love with your drapery rods.  Those are almost exactly like the ones I'm saving my pennies for.  I want to get the double rods, because my drapes are midnight blue, and I want to hang white crushed voile shears behind them.  I live in an apartment, so the extra privacy is nice.  Also love your light fixture.  Looks like bronze?  I'm a little nutty about bronze.  Canisters, shelving in bathroom, shower curtain hooks, all bronze.  If I had a house, and could afford it, I'd get the bronze appliances.

Nice curtains and I'm glad Abby likes them! :)

I totally agree with swampwitch swampwitch re: going to a professional to get them shortened. I have one pair that was done right and one pair that I did myself... :emba: Not going to show pics of those!

Me too, I have some nice dark blue curtains in my spare room which I shortened last year - or should I say I began to shorten them by cutting them down to the length needed but never quite got round to sewing the new hem line......
It's not even like I have the excuse of it being complicated because they're not lined.

Those were not very expensive if I recall. I think I got them at Target or Walmart. :) The light fixture is closer to brown than bronze. :)

Oh there is NO way I would do them myself! :flail: I have zero sewing skills. My aunt did them for me.
