How to do it safely? I currently use diatomaceous earth on my adult cats and all carpeting. Is it safe to use on the kittens?

yes, as I understand it, DE it should be safe on kittens too.  Otherwise, its combing out, and giving bath with some mild soap - blue Dawn is often used, but I suppose almost any mild soap should do.

At 6 weeks they arent as fragile as newborns, where bathing IS touchy and must be done with rigorous safety measures if you really must do it....

Also, its only good they become used to be bathed.  They seems to be mediumhaired, so they will surely be bathed during their lifes.

Blue dawn works wonders. Best to comb them while the soap is on them with a flea comb. It won't kill eggs though so it needs to be repeated every 4 or 5 days.

I used Dawn dish soap (the blue one) on Luna when she was six weeks old.  Poor baby had HUGE fleas on her when I brought her home (I bathed her the day after).  Be prepared with a flea comb and a cup of boiled water.  It took a good hour or so, but I combed the fleas out that flocked to her little face and dipped them into the boiled water.  It's tedious, but they'll be grateful for it, I feel it helped with the bonding process in a sense.  She hasn't had a single flea on her since (she's strictly indoor, no other pets).  Give the carpets a thorough vacuuming, put a flea collar inside the bag/canister prior to vacuuming to kill any of the *******s that get sucked up.
