I have a very young cat and she is pregnant. I have calculated the days and thought she was suppose to be in labor in about another week. Well Friday she started acting weird. She was a stray and a outdoor cat so I brought her in and put her in a very large kennel with blankets and towels. We left to eat Friday night and come home and it appeared to be mucousy blood spots on the towels. I waited and waited and check all night Friday night nothing. All day Saturday still nothing.

I woke up this morning Sunday and let Twinkles out and she ran into a little kennel I had on the porch and was going in and out over and over. I sat on the ground with her and she came and crawled in my lap and I seen a little baby in the back of the kennel. It was stillborn. She didnt have anything to do with it. That was at 11:00 am. So it's now 11:00 pm and no other kittens. Is there anyone that can give me advice

Was the kitten that was stillborn premature?  It would be scrawny and hairless.  If so she may wait until the rest of the kittens are ready and give birth then.  You should keep her inside until the kittens are born and about 8 weeks old.  She can be spayed then and it won't interfere with her nursing.  She can get pregnant as early as a week after giving birth.

Does she seems to have more?

I presume the first one was  premature.  No hairs?

Here are two possibilities:

1.  If she seems empty, so She had already had them prematures, but ate up them immediately.  Yes they can do so, not to attract predators.

By some reason she didnt ate up the last, that is why you saw it.

2.  If she seems still preg, they are still inside her.   With a little luck they will mature until their time to deliver comes.  and with a little luck they will come alive and healthy.

continuing

so, do you feel other kittens inside?  do they move?

If she seems OK, no visible troubles save perhaps some red colored discharge, you can wait and see.  Be observant, but you dont need to panic.

I would most definitely keep her indoors now!

Keep her as calm as possible, each day that she can not deliver them is SO much better and safer for them!

For every day they are early, it's like 2 weeks early for human babies.

This is why early born kittens have a very tough time surviving, they just weren't ready.

Please keep her as relaxed INDOORS as you possibly can now, or you may have an entire litter not make it :(

Still no kittens. It has been 24 hours. The kitten that was born appeared to be fullterm hair and so precious. Twinkles is acting normal, eating and drinking water and very affectionate towards me. She has been a little territorial as I have a small dog and if he comes around her at all attacks him and they usually lay together and are friends. Do you think she could have live babies?

It sounds like she may still be pregnant.  She is attacking your dog to protect her unborn kittens.  Can you see or feel any moving?

If she doesnt want his nearness, isolate them from each other. Its not good with this extra stress on her.

Pity, if she would accept his help, it would be easier for all, but its not so.

I didn't have Twinkles calculated until Sept 21st. The baby she had guesstimating as we buried her in back yard was about 4 inches long. She seemed small but again I have never had kittens before.

So in 7 days or so she may deliver the rest.  Other cats on the forum have delivered stillborn kittens and gone on to deliver the rest of the litter days later (even seven days) and had healthy kittens.  So long as Twinkles isn't in distress, it's a waiting game.

Do you have supplies together yet?  If not, take advantage of the next few days to do so.

Yes I have been prepared just in case I was wrong on the days. Thanks for the good news. I am relieved. Hopefully I was correct on the days and that baby was just too small. Question: As she was a outdoor cat do you think it is cruel to have her inside in a kennel at night time. The kennel is huge so she has plenty of room and food and water. I just don't want her prowling during the night and have the kittens somewhere else. I let her out during the day when I'm at home and she stays on the porch. I even put her a small kennel on the porch in case she goes into labor, but am always checking on her during the day. She never leaves the porch. She seems to want to be outside as when we are not sleeping we just let her run around in the house but she sits at the door.

Also could she still have stillborn kittens inside her and just not delivering them?

I would not let her outside at all since she could go back into labor at any time. She probably does not have dead kittens inside her, but either way she will eventually deliver them alive or not. She is not in distress right now, so try to be patient and not worry.

I suppose she could.       One big problems is this sensibility of cats to premature deliveries.  With humans its no real problem in our western world.  If in doubt, you take the baby out even if its before the proper day..

But with cats, it will kill the kittens IF they are alive and become premature more than 2 max 3 days.   On the other cats, carrying death kittens isnt not always so dangerous as it seems - as vets sometimes find calcifierated (mumiefied) kittens inside, for example at spaying...

If you do have access to a good obstetrician vet, you should of course have a close discussion with the vet.  But most vets arent experienced obstetrician, although many are good surgeons.

That is why our advice is to not to worry, observe and wait.

Of course, its somewhat touchy.  So you must look out.   To increase the safety level, do continously measure her temperature. If it raises - be prepared to take her in to the vet...

to not stress her, you can either measure with such a modern ear termometre, or in the armpit of the foreleg.   The temp there isnt as exact as measured in the behind, but good enough for our purposes.  Just remember, the temp there is somewhat lower than in the behind, typically about 3F or a full grade Celsius.

Begin measuring as soon you can, so you know what her normal temp is, and you notice changes.

Thanks so much. I guess nothing else I can do but to wait it out. Hopefully everything will turn out good. I feel better now that I have joined this site. Will update when something new happens.
Thanks again

Hello again. Still no kittens. Twinkles is doing fine eating and drinking. Very affectionate. Will not let me out of her site. She jumped in my lap this afternoon and she had what appeared to look like pus coming from her vagina. A yellowish color. I have been reading all over the internet and she shows no signs of infection. No smell or anything.
Twinkles was a stray we took in and was in heat one day July 17th to be exact and then didn't seem in heat the next day so I assumed she had gotten pregnant as she was a outdoor cat. I could be totally wrong on the dates but it seems way overdue to me. Any advice??? She sometimes looks pregnant and then a different angle she don't but she feels pregnant. She is indoors now. And I also have a small dog that I have had to seperate them both and let them out at different times but if she even sees him she attacks. That's a sign of pregnancy right? I'm so confused

Maybe she only had the one baby and is not prego now, but tummy is bigger because she has been indoors and fed regularly.

Hard to say but you really should be able to tell at this time if she is or not, she should be huge, bulging sides and a waddle type of walk somewhat.

Can you post pics of her at diff angles?

Of her nipples too.
