Hi need some help with finding out what is wrong with my adopted 6 year old male cat named Noah. He's been throwing up a few times a week mainly during the night. He likes a snack around 9pm which never bothered him before. I took him to the vet and she said he had asthma and allergies. Not sure if it because of his allergies that this is happening. Any suggestions? He seems okay otherwise.

Is it possible he's getting into something while you sleep? Chemicals, string, plants, dirty dishes in the sink, toilet water? Anything that migh cause immediate vomitting.

He stays on the bed and I keep the door closed so he can't wander out around the house. It's not every night so I'm thinking it's his food. Does anyone have suggestions for a food that is gentle on a cats stomach or should I avoid giving him anything after 9pm?

What are you feeding him now ?  Do you feed wet  ,  dry  or both ?

Is he throwing up undigested food, or a clear liquid?

My cat, Ruby, used to throw up a clear liquid overnight, and in the late afternoon, when her stomach got empty and she was hungry.  The vet suggested changing to a hypo-allergenic food and that cleared up her problem.

Did your vet suggest a food change?

I'm feeding him friskies dry indoor cat (small amount) mixed with Fancy Feast medley fish flavored preferred. Sometimes he likes the Friskies morning blend with egg. Do cats sometimes become allergic to the food?

It's very digested goldfish color no real smell. Could be stomach acid? Vet didn't suggest anything but that he had allergies. Could it be a combo of food and mucus in his stomach from allergies?

Can I suggest you stop feeding the Friskies Dry food .. It is mainly chemical additives and artificial coloring . Not  too good . Also the fish could be a problem too . My female would vomit if fed fish ..

I understand if cost is an issue with feeding so if you want to upgrade the kibble you could try Purina One Smartblend  Healthy Metabolism Dry , there are no chemical additives or artificial colors ..  My cats love this one .

It is very easy on my cats stomach too ..

If he likes Fancy Feast try the Classic fomulas . No wheat gluten and grain free ..

Yes, they can. I completely agree with what @2Cats4Me wrote: the dry foods you're feeding have lots of additives and ingredients that can cause food issues, including wheat and corn ingredients. I particularly like 2Cats4Me's suggestion of going with a canned food like Fancy Feast classics, which doesn't have grains. I think that combination--canned and grain-free--is where I'd probably start, particularly given your vet's diagnosis of allergies.

Good luck! I hope you're able to resolve the problem with an easy food change!
