My father and I were put getting food when we saw a kitten in a ditch. He said to see if I could grab it and when I called it it ran up to me. After a while teasing it with a string I went to grab it and it latched onto my finger and would not let go. My dad got out of the car and tried to help and it bit him. I grabbed a sweater and wrapped it up and its at our home in a crate. We washed our hands and used hydrogen peroxide and neither of us know what to do now. Any suggestions?

The kitten must have bitten you because he was scared. Good job on keeping hold of him and bringing him back home with you.

Cat bites can be nasty. You'll probably need some antibiotics and a tetanus shot. Ask your doctor what he/she thinks.

As for the kitten, rabies is extremely unlikely, but he will need to be tested for FIV and Leukemia, especially if you have any other animals at home. He'll probably need to be treated for worms and fleas too

Are you planning on keeping him yourself?

Thank you so much for rescuing him.

I hope to keep her (just found that out once she came out of hiding). It depends on if we get any infectiosn people have been telling me she might have to get euthanized. When she bit us she grabbed on hard so its a pretty nasty bite but even so my dads been talking to her all night so at least he isn't holding a grudge. She looks really healthy and has been eating and drinking good. We should be going in to get her tested tomorrow amd check on our bites but other than that everyones great. Im praying everything turns out okay! Thank you for your help also!

You may have to go through an isolation period with her, so they can rule out rabies. It depends on the rules your Department of Health follows. I've had to keep a cat in isolation for ten days. (He's the cat in my avatar). We weren't too concerned but he bit my husband so badly, our DoH guy insisted he be isolated.

Things turned out well. Rabies is out there but it is pretty rare because protocols have been followed pretty closely.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

I'm glad to hear she's got a home now. Hope her blood tests are all OK.

Keep a close eye on your bites, even if she hasn't got anything serious cat bites contain a lot of bacteria and easily lead to infections. Any heat or redness or any pus could be a sign of an infection starting, so make sure you get some antibiotics if that happens.

Keep us posted.
