Hello, since this is the first time dealing with feral cats living in my barn I need to know i did the right thing. And could use some advise please. One of the cats has a litter of 5 about 3 weeks old, she moved 4 of the Kittens and left one. She moved the Kittens into my hayloft. I left the kitten where it was last night and hoped she would move the last kitten and put it with the others, but the kitten was still there tonight and crying really loud, I couldn't leave it out there without it being with the mom and littermates I have racoons and coyotes so I brought the kitten in fed it and it is now sleeping and warm. Did I do the right thing, bringing it in?

Yes.  You could have put it in with the others, but since you don't know why the mom left it, she could leave it again.  You can try and put the kitten with mom and the rest of the litter tomorrow.

Keep the kitten warm.  A small stuffed animal would make a nice snuggle buddy for the night.

Yes, as Handsome said, it was the proper to do.  An extra advantage now is, you will be able to raise the kitten as a properly fostered inside kitten, much easier to adopt out, for example.

When we dont know if you will manage to foster the others...

What kmr are you giving her?   If you can get raw goat milk, its always good, in almost any situation.  Bottled full fat goat milk is OK.   Or some good bought kmr...

www.kitten-rescue.com is made by a veteran member of ours...  You will surely find some ideas there.

Good luck.

When I catch mamma and find the rest of the litter do you guys think it's safe to put this Kitten back with them I'm not sure why she didn't take this Kitten so I'm kind of afraid she's not going to feed it what are your thoughts

You can try.  She wont hurt her kitten, what can happen is she doesnt bother about it, as you fear.  So you must observe closely.

If you can get to weighting them daily (with THIS kitten before you rejoin them), then you will KNOW if he gets food from her, and if its enough.   If he gains nicely, then he gets enough.

You need to help the kitten go pee and poo.  After feeding and burping, gently rub the tummy downwards to get things moving using a damp washcloth or cotton ball.  Tap above the anus and hopefully the kitten will go.  Mom usually does this and eats it.  You can also wash the kitten with a damp cloth like the mom would clean it.

She may have been too tired to get this kitten to the nest or something spooked her and she was afraid to leave the others to retrieve this kitten.

Thank you for taking care of these tiny kittens.  I'm sure the mom thought she was moving them to a safe place.
