I know there are lots of topics in this form and otherwise talking about how to bathe a cat. However, they seem to talk about cats that sit perfectly still while you pour water over them.

My 13-year-old Maple is a big girl with lots of hair, and she has gotten quite, um, stinky. And leaving her stinkiness wherever she sits :/ So, time for a bath. She is quite a big girl, actually not 100% sure what her weight is (probably 15+ lbs). She is a very skittish kitty, and if you try to pick her up, she WILL poop on you. Liquid-y poop at that.

Anyway, she needs a bath in the worst way possible. So aside from the picking her up part, there is the actually getting her washed part. I don't have a bathtub unfortunately, just a shower. I don't want her to freak out and have a heart attack but don't want her to keep having this pee all over her bottom either.

I'm hoping someone has some experience with bathing a big skittish kitty. I also want to use clippers and get some of the excess hair off her bottom so stuff doesn't stick to it anymore. I can't even imagine how she'd react to that though.

I'm not great at bathing my kitties and they're not fully grown yet so it's a bit easier. I tried to take these steps when I was first trying to figure out how to give baths; Technically, you could go step by step until you can put your cat in water, taking as much time on each step as it does for her to feel comfortable, or at least, doesn't freak out (though, I don't know if a water-adverse kitty will ever get comfortable.. but theoretically, hahah). I think a basin or sink would be better because the shower could get water in the kitty's ears. I myself don't have water running directly onto my cats, just a full basin that I drain and refill after lather/rinsing.

- Put her in a bath/bucket that comes up to her paws (give a treat if she's well behaved)

- Put her in the basin, rub-down the kitty's fur with a warm wet towel and dry her (")

- Put her in the basin, rub-down her fur, gently pour some water on her, dry her (")

- Put her in the basin, rub-down her fur, lather her with some cat shampoo, gently pour some water on her, dry her (")

- Put her in the basin, rub-down her fur, lather her with some cat shampoo, gently pour some water on her, put her into the bath burrito-style with a towel, dry her (")

Or you could try using water-less cat shampoos, and I've also seen some deodorizing wet-wipes for cats on the market.
