Hi I've joined tonight just found this site. Been googling loads for advice just got a new kitten. He's a british blue and my first pedigree. My last cat Leo died in January. He had lymphoma and there was nothing the vets could do to save him. We were devastated to lose him. We don't have children and Leo was more than a cat to us.

My partner said he couldn't bear to have another one but I knew I could't go catless. I researched all the traits we loved in Leo and every quiz I did came up with british shorthair as our ideal cat. Realistically I would have loved a moggie just as much but needed to sell this idea!
We brought teddy home last Sunday and he's settling in. He had an upset tummy for a few days so took him to my vet. She advised hills ID gastrointestinal diet and pro kolin paste for a few days and it's settled down. I'm slowly reintroducing dried food (purina junior pro as advised by the breeder) not sure if it was the wet that upset him or change of environment/jabs.
I've had a cat since I was 6 but it's been years since I had a kitten. Just want to do the best for him so googling like mad - every little sniff and I'm worrying! Would really appreciate any advice anyone has about best food for sensitive stomachs, letting pedigrees out or keeping in or any tips to make him as comfortable and happy as possible.

Wasn't sure how to upload pics to this post but I've put some on my profile

Xxxx

He's so lush but obviously prefers my partner to me despite the fact that I'm the one who really wanted him![emoji]128572[/emoji] hard to prise them apart. He seems quite chewy - is 13 weeks too early to be teething? He's clawed at his mouth a few times today and has chewed on the wands of his dangle toys. Also had a go at the leg of the table [emoji]128586[/emoji]

Welcome! Teddy is absolutely adorable and I'm glad his stomach problems are clearing up. One of my three has food sensitivity issues but we've never been able to pin down what exactly was causing the problem. Our vet recommended switching them all over to Science Diet and that seems to have cleared it up, we haven't had any problems in the 4 years since. But if his problems seem to be going away I'd stick with what you're doing, especially if the breeder recommended it. As far as letting pedigrees in or out go I can't help much as all mine have been domestic rescues (closest I have to a purebred is Maya, who a Ragdoll breeder friend believes has a good amount Ragdoll in her). But I'd assume that if you just have him as a pet and aren't planning on breeding or anything it'd be no different than any other cat.

Either way enjoy your little boy and the site!

It's been really weird - I bought animonda carny kitten wet food and the purina as advised by the breeder because she said it would be best for me to continue with what she'd given him - bit of both. I thought the wet stuff looked quite fatty but we're both wondering if there's been a recipe change or something? He'd been a bit runny with her but it had settled down. He'd had his second jab the day before I picked him up so I wondered if it might be that - this was Sunday. It was no better by Monday so took him to my vet. She said he had a slight rectal prolapse from the upset tummy and advised me to put sudocreme on his bum. It's calmed down loads his bum looks totally normal now & prolapse has gone back in. Going to keep him on the purina and hills ID gastrointestinal pouches for now but not sure whether to reintroduce wet food or not. Will give the animonda a swerve for sure but might try the hills if they do normal wet pouches.
Maybe it was just the stress of leaving his mum and littermates especially so soon after his jab. He's much better now - very cheeky, curious and playful.
The breeder advised keeping him in as she said they typically don't have the sense to keep safe outdoors but he seems sharp as a tack to me will have to see how he goes.
So glad to be a cat mummy again but stressing about things so this site is great just to check through the threads to answer my many questions! [emoji]128568[/emoji]
