Hi all,

I'm hoping someone else has experience with this or knows about this, as money is tight right now and if possible, I'd like to avoid a vet visit...

My almost 6 mo. old kitten's permanent canine teeth, top and bottom, have grown in with what can only be described as grooves or indentations running from top to bottom (from gumline to tip, one groove per tooth). His gums look normal, but there's this weird groove in his teeth. His other teeth look normal. As a side note, his baby upper canine teeth had a brown stripe running vertically, too, about a month before his permanent teeth came in. Not from birth. They were pearly white when I adopted him at 9 wks old. I thought it was just staining from the pumpkin I give him with each meal? It didn't come off with brushing though, but I wasn't too concerned since I knew he'd be losing those teeth anyway, but now that his permanent teeth have this bizarre vertical groove thing going on, I'm concerned!

Is this a normal tooth abnormality? A sign of genetic tooth weakness or something more dire, like disease? Is he going to be more prone to cavities? I bought a cat toothbrush and toothpaste today, Sentry Petrodex. Does anyone have experience with this brand? It says "veterinary strength", whatever that means. I debated between this one and the all-natural one, but I went with this one. How often should I brush Boone's teeth?

Thank you for your help and any input!!

Is it possible you could post a close up photo?  It does NOT sound like an emergency of any kind....
