Hello there,

A young cat showed up in my back yard a month ago, and I started feeding her.  Since then she has become friendlier and on September 8th, we invited her inside.  On the afternoon of September 10th, she had 4 kittens!  We’ll be looking for homes for them when the time comes.

We suspect someone had her, noticed she was pregnant, and dropped her off out in the country.  Some people really bother me…

For the pure enjoyment of others, I have put up a live feed on youtube.

Please enjoy!

Oh my goodness, how sweet! What's her name? She looks very peaceful there, feeding her bubs. That little smokey grey tuxedo has a very interesting coat colour.

How sweet of you to take her in when she was desperate.

Yes, many of us on here have mopped up after irresponsible and cold-hearted cat owners. It's very frustrating, especially when there are low-cost spay/neuter clinics available.

The kittens are just adorable [emoji]128149[/emoji].

Well, we don't really have a name for her yet.  We were thinking of Little Momma, in keeping with the last time we had cats show up like this... we named the first mother Big Momma.  :) She showed up 9 years ago with 4 kittens in tow, so we kept the mother and one kitten, and found homes for the other three.  They are inside cats, so we're having to keep them mostly separated for now, and swapping beds so they get used to each others scent.  My wife wants to call her Elizabeth.  I guess we'll see!  I am taking suggestions on a name for what appears to be a 6 month old mother!

They are 4 weeks old today and all 4 babies, and momma are doing great!

I have added sound to the video now so you can hear them making a whole lot of noise. :)

Cheers

It's so wonderful of you both to care for this kitten family. I'm sure the mama kitty is very appreciative of her room and board. Your resident cats will grow accustomed to the newcomers in time. At four weeks old they are surely very cute now as they begin to explore!

Will you be keeping mom and any of the babies?

Yes, they are very cute at this age.  If Molly (finally named the mom!) eventually gets along with our two older cats, which I am sure she will, then we will keep her and find good homes for the 4 kittens.  I'm going to take her in to get spayed in a couple of weeks so maybe that will mellow her a bit as she is fairly aggressive towards Marbles and Big Momma.  I assume she's just being protective of her babies and that the behaviour will subside when the kittens are weaned.

I think you are right about her behavior. Make sure the kittens are eating solids well before you spay her. She'll still be able to nurse, but it's better if the kittens are mostly weaned first.

Good advice, thanks.  She has not started weaning them yet, although today, for the first time, the kittens were smelling momma's food while she was eating.

Well, the kittens are 12 weeks old today, so sadly (for me) they will be shipping off to their forever homes this weekend.  One grows quite attached to kittens that you interact with 24/7 for 3 months.  Sad and happy occasion.

I imagine you do it's hard not to grow attached to kittens. You've done well for them and it was nice to hear that they won't be alone in their homes. :)

You keeping the mother or adopting her out as well?

Thanks for the video it's been fun to watch when I think of it.

Thanks.  Fingers crossed for keeping the mom (Molly).  She does not get along with our two resident cats yet, but maybe after she's fixed she will.  Our vet doesn't hold out much hope though, since it's been so long, so we may be finding her a home as well.

I meant to mention that on the youtube feed, you can always use the scroll bar on the bottom to scroll back up to two hours to see some action if there's nothing happening live.

I know how you feel letting the kittens go to their forever home. I am fostering two ( have been for 4 weeks) and they go to their forever home tomorrow. I didn't realize how hard it was going to be to let them go. They are going together and their new family will give them a wonderful home. It's still going to be hard. I think it's awesome that you are going to try to keep the mom!
