Hello everyone, Magiks here,

So long story short, some kitties made their way into our facility grounds and after much effort found someone to rescue them.

Due to company policy, random people are not allowed to enter the facilities, so they suggested I capture them myself and have the rescuer waiting at the security booth for pick up. I don't think negotiation is possible to let the person in. I've already been offered help by another girl inside to help trap them. People had already decided to "have them disappear" during the weekend, and are happy they won't have to do it themselves. Thank god I'm very vocal about loving kitties that someone told me about them!

That said, there's a calico momma with 3 babies. She appears to be around 6 months old (a baby herself!
) since, as I recall, first heat is around 3 months old, plus gestation plus her 3 kitties look to me about a week or so. They are chubby and wriggle around only.

I saw another calico kitty, he looks about the same age as her, and I was told he has a twin. But people may be confusing momma with the twin, etc. I don't know.

I heard that at least the twins are very social, begging people outside the cafeteria for food. So they should be fairly easy to catch (I hope I'm not jinxing anything)
. I will have them separate from momma and babies.

My worry is momma and her babies. I plan to take a padded cardboard box to get her and put her babies inside with her. Will of course add air holes. I hope she doesn't get defensive. We put down water for her about 6 ft. from her and she seemed to perk up her head and be attentive while we poured the water into the container. She was feeding the kitties at the time.

Are there any extra tips to catching her, her kids and the twins?

Do you have ideas as to what problems could arise while trying to save her?

It's been very hot lately, should the box have bubble wrap in the bottom, just a blanket or is it better bare so it doesn't get hot in the cardboard box? (I can't quite get a carrier inside the facilities either)

Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

What if you could get a wire crate to put her in? I've seen pictures of older cat carriers that were made of bird cage type wire. I'm afraid she will get out of that box, she'll shred it to bits with her claws. Would you be allowed to bring a plastic carrier if a security member checked it on the way in?

Can't bring the carrier inside. Very strict rules.

The box is heavy duty cardboard. So it should hold up pretty well to scratches and bites at least for the hour it would take the guy to get home.

Should I wear gloves to not "human scent" the babies?

Should I put the babies or the momma in the box first? I'm thinking the babies

Thank you

Babies first, I'm not sure if you should wear gloves or not, if the mother cat would bite, gloves really wouldn't help much. Cats can pretty much bite through any glove material plus wearing gloves makes your hands lose dexterity, or grip on the kitty, for the mother you might be able to catch her and scruff her, much like a mother cat would a kitten.

I... hadn't thought they would bite me. I just didn't want them to be touched my by human hands so momma wouldn't reject them. I'll be very careful though.

We have disposable nitrile (lab) gloves, so I don't think it would be a problem to hold the kitties.

Should I put in the box a blanket, bubble wrap or just leave it empty? We've got a heat wave here with a predicted temp for the time of 86 F degrees and the holed box will be closed so they don't escape, I don't want to add unneeded warmth unless necessary.

I would not put any bubble wrap, someone could get suffocated, you might put a sheet of newspapers in the bottom of the box to absorb any pee or poop if they had to go.

I think that since she is coming up for food  from different people, she should actually be quite tame. It is good you have a helper to get her in the box just in case she struggles a bit.

I wouldn't worry too much about human scent on the kittens, especially if mom is friendly.  She will be more stressed out at being in the box than anything.  If the rescuer has a crate or carrier for her, she won't have to be in the box too long.

Transferring her to the crate will be easy - put the box in it and open the box.  In fact, the box can remain in the crate and will become her safe place.

If you have to transfer her to a carrier, best it is be done in secure room.

Good luck!  Thank you so much for helping them.  And please keep us posted!

OK. No bubble wrap. Add newspaper. Thank you very much.

Thank you very much. No only is it complex because of the regulations, but also because it's going to be on the side of hill, so the worst that could happen to us is that we fell on our butts

I just went to check up on the group and only saw momma and her 3 babies. The twins were nowhere in sight. A cream colored baby was stumbling around with his ears perked. Another was a (maybe) tortie baby and the third is a blue bicolor as best I could see. Momma is a lovely calico.

I hope everything goes well! I'm keeping up the good spirits! I can't wait until tomorrow!

Luckily he lives very near by, so he'll take them straight home.

I'm so happy I can help and and very relieved I found out about them before they "made them disappear"

Oh, good!  I am praying that things go well for you all!
Thank you!

I really hope everything goes well! I had the chance to go today to check to see if they were still there and they were! A couple of cream and white twins and the momma with her babies.

He said he would come at about 2:00 pm (In around 1 1/2 hrs). I'm nervous

UPDATE:

Good and bad news.

The twins were nowhere in sight and the maintenance people that had been working there all day said that they hadn't seen any cats at all.

Momma fled into the factory besides ours and disappeared when she saw me. Didn't see her again.

After a lot of work I was able to get the 3 fluffy butt babies. After more work found a lady who took them in and will take care of them: feed them, vet them and find them homes when they are old enough.

This is the fluffy butts:

There were 3. Butterscotch color was the first one caught since he was defending his siblings while they fled to more under the water tank. Then after a lot of patience took gray and white baby out. Finally cream kid, they all looked not in optimal condition, but Cream Kid looked almost sick. I'm glad the lady will take care of them
I will check today to see if the young trio made it out of the grasp of the  fumigation team. The factory is on a hill, so hopefully they fled in time, like momma did from me. If they keep returning, I'll see if I can catch more on the weekend when I have a ride (I have no car or else I would take them as soon as possible) or if maintenance people can catch them for me, I will search for people to take care of them.

I'm very disappointed for not being able top get the trio out, but the more at risk fluffy butts are safe and that's a little battle won.

This is good news. These babies will find good homes and not have to worry about living in the wild.

Praying you are able to find mom and the twins and at least give them a chance.

Good job!

Thank you for the good wishes!

Today I went to see and saw the twins roaming around. I looked around and didn't see the 3rd kitty (the momma). I'll search today on the adoption group in my city for someone to take him(her) in before I pick the kid up. I really can't keep the kid in my house at all.

That is super tricky and I feel for you. Momma may be looking for her babies. You may be able to bring her around by putting a towel with the babies to get their scent on it. As far as catching her, you may need a humane trap. Do you feed her regularly? That's the best way to get a feral close enough to you for catching, but even then it's tricky.

I know. I'm so sorry for momma. I feel so guilty about taking her babies away since she was taking very good care of them
but we manufacture sensitive things and we can't have animals roaming around the plant. They were going to search for all kitties and "make them go away", god knows what the fumigation company was going to do to them. I mean, the young cats can run and they disappeared the day I went to catch them so they didn't get to the twins, I just hope momma had the same luck since I didn't see her there yesterday.

They are being "fed" by the people eating in the terrace, so they don't mind being near people. Yesterday I went and saw them sleeping on the terrace until I started to get close they went through the fence but didn't run away. I put out my hand until about 6 inches from their face before they moved back. They are very sweet

I'm sure I can get the twins out with little trouble since people have offered to help me catch them and get them out. The only problem is where would they go.

I'm sorry, I promise I was not trying to cast any aspersions on you. I'm certain you're doing all in your power to help these kitties, and thank you so much for that.
Still have hopes you can catch mama. How are the babies doing?

Wow, thank you. I did feel a little bad at comment but not because you made it, rather than that I remembered that I separated momma and babies.
It actually rained very hard on Tuesday, so I felt a little better knowing that the babies were safe and warm inside a home. I also felt bad about the kitties I haven't been able to relocate yet. It's my first "rescue" so I'm still learning to deal with mixed feelings of regret and joy, failure and accomplishment. I'm sure I'll be able to deal better with all of this as time goes on

The woman said the babies are doing beautifully and that she hasn't had time to take their picture because she's been very busy with the babies and all the other animals she has taken in: feeding, caring and finding homes for all.

Since it rained, I worry the kitties left. I will check to make sure they are still there before continuing to search them a temporary or permanent home.

Thank you everyone for the warm encouragement and good wishes
