This is my first post , and I thought I'd mark my appearance by marking the first anniversary of our little Poppet crossing the bridge.

He had acute Kidney Failure , and despite all efforts , there really wasn't anything to be done for him,

He was the last of our 6 cats that we shared our hose with for a total of 23 years...

We moved into our house in 1991 , and as part of the deal, we took on 4 adult cats that had belonged to the previous owners, the cats had lived in the house all their lives and we couldn't turn them out, despite never having owned a pet in the past!

We had them for  11 years and they thrived, we lost one of the original 4 in the second year , thanks to a car accident , but a stray wandered in a few months later , and simply stayed, the other 3 tolerated him.. sort of! and that was it for over a decade

In 2002 into 2003 we lost 3 of the 4 of hem to Kidney disease and Cancer , leaving just one of them ,Blackie,  who was soon joined by another stray, Poppet who showed up in the Summer of  2003, liked the look of the place and stayed

Blackie and Poppet put up with each other until she passed in 2007 to Cancer again,

We didn't have an ager for her , but we'd looked after her for 16 years , so we guessed her age at around 18 or so

Poppet was fully gown when he arrived, and for 11 years he thrived under our care , and enjoyed the feline high life , until he had to leave us .. Sniff

After a cat free 3 months we took on 2 Cat Protection re homes in November  , Parker and Otis, they're young (3 & 4) big, (parker is 14 lbs of pure muscle and walks on a lead!!) Otis is a jet black mini Panther , and they complete our lives again

I hope some day to meet them all again .. until then here's to all of the them , Theo , Sirkits , Tuggy, Blackie and Poppet .. gone but never forgotten

Sorry to Ramble

Colin

I welcome you to the site, it sounds like you have lots of experience to share with others! For you never having owned a pet before all these, it sounds like you did a fine job, they thrived under your care. I'm sure you found that love is the most important aspect in cat care, somehow they worm their way into your heart whether you want them to or not. I hope you will continue to come to this forum, as you well know losing one of these precious beings takes a huge emotional toll and any comfort in these times is welcome. My heart goes out to you for your losses, but you have found that passing on their legacy of love to another desperate soul is a wonderful way to celebrate all the love and companionship they so willingly gave you. None of them would ever want you to continue your life in sadness, they would want you to treasure the happy memories you have, and take comfort in knowing they loved you so very much. I pray they all can RIP knowing they are held forever in a loving heart!

Welcome to TCS! Such anniversaries are bittersweet, filled with happy memories of shared lives, but reminders of what has been lost. Parker and Otis will profit from all the experience you gained by "inheriting" the others.

What a nice tribute!  I feel certain you all will meet again, someday in the far distance.
