My poor sweet baby Katniss hasn't acted right all day today. Its now almost 3am here and i am so worried i cannot sleep. She is only 1 year 5 months old. She recently was tested for FIV and it showed positive but she is asymptomatic. Everything has been fine until today. I noticed she has been laying in our laps a lot lately (she's not much of a lap cat, she prefers her condo instead), but thought it may be because of the new cat in the house that we rescued a month ago, however they get along very well so i don't think its that.
Hubby said she started sneezing every now and then while I was sleeping today. Then when i got up I noticed she ate her "breakfast" fine, didn't drink much water but she usually never does anyways; i give her wet food mostly. After my nap (couldn't sleep due to recent surgery), she was still in the same spot on the couch where i left her and her "lunch" wasn't touched.
I then noticed she was coughing every now and then. Not continuously but every hour or so she would cough. I kept watching her for a few hours because she still hadn't moved. I tried to pick her up and she coughed and made a weird baggy noise so i sat her down. she started gagging but nothing came up. After another hour i got to eat some tuna from a can and I mixed extra water in there she so wouldn't get dehydrated.
it took her about 2 hours to eat the tuna. i offered her her favorite treat, but she didn't go for it. and honestly today, i don't think she has used her litter box. i have been with her all day and haven't seen her move very much. i checked her gums (which made her gag and very mad) and they were a little pale, but i pulled her skin up and it went down just fine. she will not play, but will just lay on the couch and sleep. her breathing isn't labored and she isn't wheezing. she will let me pick her up and hold her close but it almost seems like she is in pain. i have pain meds left over from her spaying last year but they are outdated by 3 months.
anything else to look for?? i am going to try to get her into the vet tomorrow as soon as i can!!!! I'm so worried, any advice suggestions experiences??? she has been perfectly healthy and no signs of illness. she just had her annual fecal float and vaccine last week! she is also an indoor cat. she goes on the balcony and for walks around the apartment complex but nothing crazy.
