My cat gave birth to six kittens today, but the weird thing is whenever she goes into the closet where they are at she immediately starts to pant, and as soon as she leaves she stops panting? She's eating and drinking water,I'm confused..

She may be having afterpains that cause her to pant. If that's the reason it should gradually lessen and stop in a few days.

How long has it been since the last kitten was born? Did she deliver all of the placentas? It's possible she still has another kitten and is still in labor, or if there is still a placenta inside it has to come out.

How is your cat today?

They do sometimes pant off and on for a few days after giving birth. It's hard work adjusting to nursing all the time, and there can be after pains. It should stop soon. Your cat does need extra food now to support her nursing.
