Has anyone ever heard of scorpion venom changing a cat's coat? I got a new cat in April, 1 yr old, long hair, young, so wanting to play. Not too long after I got him, I thought I noticed that his nose looked wider. Then, it started bulging. I figured it was a scorpion sting and I'd just watch it. After a couple of days, one morning, I woke up and it was bloody. I called the vet (thurs), but they couldn't get me in until Sat. By Sat morning, the skin had schluffed off and healed, so I never did take him in. The thing is, his tail went from very fluffy (approx 2" diameter) to all scraggly. It has since filled back in. The thinning fur seemed to occur along with the swollen nose. Has anyone ever heard of that before? He's also gained 4 lbs since he's arrived, but I pretty sure that's the self feeder and not the scorpion, :-)

In short answer....no.

I think my cat got stung in the nose by a scorpion once.  All he did was paw at his nose for a few minutes, then he was off and running again.  Reason I think it was a scorpion was because later I saw it in the same vicinity.

What makes you think it was a scorpion vs a spider.  Normally cats don't have a reaction to scorpions.  At this point in time, especially since his tail "feathers" s we call them grew back, I don't think I'd worry too much about it.

Because I've seen scorpions in the house and not a lot of spiderwebs and several baby scorpions which are worse. Any idea why his tail feathers would thin all of a sudden, then fill back out?

  SEVERAL baby scorpions???  YIKES!!!
Hopefully you see them before you step on them
.  That's one good thing about cats....they normally let you know where those little beasts are
.  I've been stung twice myself.  First time was no big deal, hardly knew anything happened.  Second time I ended up in the ER
.

As for spider webs, I don't think you necessarily have to see webs in your house to have spiders.  I've never seen a web in my house either, but one day one of my cats was watching something, and so I looked to see what it was, and it was a big ole wolf spider climbing up the wall.  Freaked me out!  And this was upstairs no less.  I STILL have no idea where it came from
.

No clue why your little one dropped fur from his tail, then it grew back.  Just be happy it came back in.
