Our cat 'Pus'  has been living with feline herpes for a year now. only major problem is an eye infection ( sore). we live in Norway and the recognised treatment Gancilclovir ophthalmic eye gel ( Virgan ) is not available in Norway at all.  I cant get it anyware as a prescription for Norway is not acepted in UK as Norway is not in the Common market.

After ages of trying everything to get the ointment, a reputable animal charity in uk suggested the following... ''Find somebody who has a cat with the same problem and get them to send you a couple of tubes of the ointment to Norway or get them to send you a prescription they have got for their can and you can ordenr online''

So here's the big challenege... please please could anybody contact me and send me one or two tubes of Virgan or a valid prescription,  we will pay ALL expenses and more if this was possible.  its frustrating to see pus suffer when a regognised treatment is availbale in UK but not in Norway due to beurocrocy. Please

Hi

You way want to google cat rescue groups in the UK for more direct assistance however there are other anti-viral ointments and drugs that have been shown to be effective against feline herpes and eye problems.

Cidofovir

Famciclovir

Aciclovir

The above drugs are discussed in Table 3 and in the paragraphs after table 3 in the linked PDF: www.crcal.org/eventos/28-02-13/Articulo%20FHV-1.pdf

More eye ointments are discussed here: https://www.vetinfo.com/treating-feline-herpes-antiviral-therapy.html

Perhaps your vet would consider consulting with a vet in the UK who could give him the compounding formula for some of the medications and he could compound them for you.  Here in the US, we use Neopolydex drops for some serious herpes eye infections.
