If you see something that they won't ship, I'd be willing to order it for you and mail it over to you. We'd have to figure out currency exchange, but it could be done!

W/ the best cats
Find me weird, but whenever I am at a hobby shop, I take a lot of time looking at the DMC threads and then buy the colors I like or don't have. I guess I do this because I want to have all the threads I need once I see a pattern I want or on those rare occassions when I am inspired to cross stitch something I imagined in my head (of course, those don't come out the way I want)

BTW, thank you for the link!

Thanx, that is very kind of you! I was just wondering, if you have some of those, if you were willing to cut a small piece for me, just a few inch. and mail it to me, just so I can compare it with the European kind. If its very similar, and the prize would be similar as well (I have not checked that yet), you wouldnt have to go into any trouble for me.

I know what you mean, if I like something, and it has a collection, I kindof "have to" have the whole collection
For instance I should have another kitchen for all the china I have collected through the years

Are you looking for fabric samples of DMC floss samples? I have over 300 DMC colors at hand, and fabric in a lot of counts available (a bin full). What size stitches are you looking for (I have from itty-bitty tiny to about 18 count).

And another thing, the currency thing wouldnt be trouble, since I probagbly could pay with VISA. Since I know someone who workes in VISA Iceland (that would be my s/o
), I could let him put your address as my alternative address, then the company shouln´t have problem even if the visa card is not an US card.

Having only done something from "kits" I dont know what I want! I just know I now have good glasses and I want to do something about doing more cross stitch! I was just thinking about a few inches of any colour of the DMC. Are the fabrics also in different kinds? Of couse some are for big stitch and some for small, are those the "18 count" things? Is it bigger when the numbers are greater? Like 3 would be more "fine" than 18?

Ohh, I am getting so excited to start!!!!!

The larger the number the smaller the stitches. I don't know metric conversion, but 18-count is 18 stitches per inch, 22-count is 22 per inch, etc. I personally like the higher numbers (I've done 27 stitches per inch when my eyes were better), as the pieces come out more like a painting, but you don't get a really big picture.

You use different numbers of threads depending on the count. 14 count uses 3 threads, 18 count uses 2 threads, and 22 or greater uses 1 thread.

Fabrics come in all different kinds. Most kits have your normal everyday fabric, but you can buy linens, rough burlappy types, and a lot of different colors (white, bone, ivory, pastels, navy blue, red, green). I'm a fan of linens, but the fabric you choose really depends on what you are making on it. Some tapesty type patterns beg for the finer linens. Most folks that start out use everyday fabric - it's cheaper and if you make a mistake, not so costly.

If you PM your full address, I'll ship you a sample of the DMC floss (a couple of cool colors).

Here is one that I made many years ago. It's done on a soft yellow fabric, 18 count. I can take more pictures, but most of my cross stitch hangs in the kitchen and the puppy is sleeping in there right now (I don't want to wake him up).

Aha, all of the things I have done as a grown up has been with 1 and 2 threads. Or was is all with 1 thread? I havent cross stitched since 1999, am I really that forgetful!?!
I aslo like it better, the smaller the stitches.

By the sound of it, I must have been using everyday fabric
At least it looks just plain everyday white to me

Sesselja,

I was just looking on DMC's website, and they have a page to do a store search for all around the world. http://www.dmc.com/eng/default_FindStore.asp?cat_id=ct4 Maybe you could find someplace close to you that carries it?

Most of the patterns that I have offer the floss colors in both DMC and Anchor thread so you can choose which one to use. I know there are conversion charts floating around the web too.
