Has anybody had good results feeding Purina brand, Pro Plan Focus-Urinary (dry) food instead of RX of Royal Canin-SO ?

any reviews on Wild Calling rabbit canned food? My cat is fussy and seems to enjoy this brand.
note: He had a blockage almost of month ago with IV treatments and bladder flushing etc... 4 days in hospital.
I don't want to go through this again as he gets very stressed out.

That's my Tynk in my profile pic after returning from his ordeal.

Thanks in advance.

Just bumping this up.

Is there any reason why you don't want to feed the Royal Canin S/O?   Is the S/O dry, or canned?  From everything I've read, it's much better to feed wet food rather than dry to any cat that has urinary issues, although I do understand that some cats don't like the prescription canned foods and so are fed the dry form. Better the dry prescription than dry NON-prescription...BUT, you said he likes the Wild Calling, and I think that's canned, isn't it?

When you ask for reviews on Wild Calling, are you asking if it's good for cats with urinary issues, or good in general, or do cats like it, or what.  I know MY cats won't touch it, but that's not much of a review
.  Was your Tynk eating this when he blocked?

Royal Canin gets expensive over time and wanted a more economical route.
Tynk finished his RX bag of S/O dry and he likes their wet RX food. 24 small cans for $35 or $50 bag.
Yes I wanted to know if Wild Calling was a helpful product for his issues. And if it was a reputable company. If anybody had good results with this brand.
He likes the rabbit flavour.
I read on another site that Purina Pro Plan-FOCUS Urinary dry had all of the same ingredients as a dry RX/s/0 by Royal Canin. This vet had looked over the ingredients and said it was fine.

History: The caretaker at the firestation was feeding Whiskas dry ADULT food to Tynk the kitten when I adopted it. So, I continued with kitten to adult cat kibbles. And he loves the Friskies shredded wet food.
He was eatting canned tuna occasionally.
Earlier in his life I was feeding raw but he didn't stick with it for long. Rejected Red Dog Blue Kat's lamb, turkey flavours but ate their raw kangaroo and sometimes venison. Hates all forms of pate eg: Wellness,
I learned today that clay litter could be a contributing problem.

OK, now I understand.  Yes, that prescription food can definitely get pricey
.  If your Vet looked over the ingredients of the other and gives you the go-ahead, then I would say..."go ahead"

Sadly for Tynk, you want to stay away from fish with a tendency towards crystals. AND if you are going to give him any dry food, I would say it MUST be either the prescription, or something approved by your VET, ie, the Purina Pro Plan Focus-Urinary, although, personally, I would try to give him as much WET food as possible.

Here are a couple of thread discussing different wet foods that might be good for cats with crystals (low in phosphorus and magnesium)

http://www.thecatsite.com/t/301313/wet-food-for-cat-after-uti-crystals

THIS one, the cat HATES pate also
http://www.thecatsite.com/t/302645/food-help-please

So...are you talking about Wild Calling kibble, or canned?  If kibble, then I guess you would need to ask your Vet if he approves of the ingredients, since it's not advertised as Urinary.  If canned, you would need to contact the company and find out what their percentage of phosphorus and magnesium is, if you want to feed mainly this.  I thought this was pate though (been awhile since I tried to feed it).

I posted in another thread that the Purina UR and the Pro Plan Urinary health dry, have very close stats. It also smells exactly the same as the Purina UR. The UR is Purinas prescription brand so it looks like it's close the the more expensive prescription brands.

@ mrsgreenjeans, thanks for this new info.
"Wild Calling" is a canned wet and kind of mushy (non-meatloafy in texture). No, WC is just regular wet food.
My vet of course recommended Royal Canin SO and related RC products which she sells.
This other vet was mentioned in yahoo groups. Yes, I do read those levels of magnesium, ash etc...

@hexisfriend.. thank you for mentioning your other thread here.
...really thought my cat would not get this condition because he drinks alot from his fountain which is available 24/7. Tynk sits there and drinks for long time too.
He likes to catch and sometimes eat moths and spiders. And read somewhere that spiders could be poisonous. He is such a good, friendly kitty and lives in a confined space (condo) and even comes home to use his litterbox. And when he is done he goes back to explore our neighbour's balcony.

I bought some Pro Plan yesterday and he seems to be eatting it. And it does look very similar to the RX food.
Got rid of Temptations Treats which are probably bad stuff for all cats.

We had a black cat in the seventies and eighties and never had problem with her urinary tract.

I've also had male cats for 25 years and last year was the first time I ever had a male with a blockage. This one was also my biggest boy though...he's lost a few lbs but he's still a big boy.

is Purina UR still available I haven't seen it in Canada and has anybody
tried Vet's Best Urinary Tract tablets for the maintenance of the cat's bladder? I will continue to feed wet foods too. Royal Canin chunky stew and Purina Pro Plan UR formula in cans.
