After months of coaxing, I adopted a little feral that was hanging around my house. I got him his shots, flea treatment and neutered him. He started coming in every night and sleeping with us. He still went out in the day but he stayed right around my yard. Last night he started meowing and scratching at my husband while he was sleeping. It was 4:00 a.m. and the cat usually sleeps until 7 or so. My husband got up to let the cat out. When my husband opened our bedroom door he smelled gas. He investigated further and realized that the ATV he had just put in the garage had leaked out all of its gas all over the attached garage's floor. The fumes were seeping into the house. The cat must have smelled something different and decided he was out of here, waking my husband up to go outside. So our skittish little stray did good last night and alerted us to what could have been a disaster. He came in for a little while tonight but still seemed skittish because of the lingering smell in the air. He decided to sleep outside. I miss him already, but am thankful for his skittish side for once.

That little guy deserves a special reward!  He might have prevented a real tragedy!

Oh wow, that's incredible! I'm glad you took the little guy in and everyone's okay. That could have been dangerous.
