My brother's cats are very finicky and he was changing their food very often. He happened to see Purnina Beyond wet food in the supermarket and, remarkably, they both ate it. Sometimes they prefer the pate and other times, the chunks in gravy. I've raad the ingredients and it doesn't look too bad, for a supermarket food. One thing that bothers me is the "natural flavor." I e-mailed the company and was told that its identity cannot be disclosed because it's proprietary information. I'm never comfortable with mystery ingredients and a surprising number of expensive "natural," pet store foods, contain them.
Overall, however, I was surprised.

The other issue is that I read that foods with gravy were unhealthy. However, Weruva makes foods with gravy. Has anyone else tried Beyond canned cat food?
(The cats are still eating Instinct dry food mixed with the canned Beyond.)

My cat loves Beyond. It's easily one of her favorites. I like that it's one of the nicer grocery store foods since it has no grains (or at least it advertises that it doesn't...). My cat does throw up when she eats it too fast, though, so I've been having her eat different foods for the past couple of weeks to see if it's her or the Beyond, and she hasn't thrown up since I've switched her off of it. I don't consider that conclusive evidence and I plan on trying it again one more time to see if the food really is the problem.

I've heard that the gravy stuff is less healthy, but my cat won't eat wet food without the gravy, so I don't worry about it too much. Healthy food doesn't help if she won't eat it, right? :)

Unfortunately, that is true. My male started eating my brother's cats' food, the Beyond, while I was buying Fromm and Instinct, which he refused to eat. I was always told that when an animal gets hungry enough, he'll eat. That, evidently is not true. I don't like feeding a food with gravy but otherwise, he won't eat.

Yeah, I don't think that getting hungry enough to eat thing applies to cats. Cats are excellent at going on hunger strikes. Last time I tried to force a food issue with my cat, she started drinking water instead of eating and lost a scary amount of weight before the human caved first and gave her the food she wanted.

My worry wouldn't be the cat dying of starvation so much as getting fatty liver disease and having all sorts of medical complications because of food deprivation. I think cats can go a very long time before they starve to death, but they don't think about the stress they're putting on their bodies that can cause permanent damage.

Besides, is it really worth turning every single meal time into a battle with your cat? There's some foods they just need time and encouragement (like yummy food toppers) to adjust to, but if the cat has tried the food and simply doesn't like it, I doubt they'd ever eat it easily and that doesn't seem worth it to me. It's your cat and your call, though. One thing you might try to make yourself more comfortable with it is to get the more expensive food with gravy. (Wellness makes some food in sauce that my cat seems to like, and Earthborn Hollistic is pretty good.)
