For what it's worth my cats love the new tiki gourmet carnivore line. I bought two assortment boxes, so I could see what they liked. They liked most, my fussy girl lived chicken and liver and tilapia the most. Lots of juice, which they love and it keeps them hydrated!

I wish I could get the gourmet line in Canada.  But even the regular line I have to order online.  I checked Tiki Cat's official store locator and none are sold even within a day's drive (unless I cross the border and the dollar exchange right now is terrible).

I really can get away with dividing 3oz between the two of them for a single meal.  I did manage to pick up some more 3oz cans today.  I will have to pick up the cheaper 3oz stuff later.  I'm just a little disappointed that the 3oz cans of Performatrin's Ultra Grain-Free line are "stews" rather than pates.  I feel like pates are more bang for your buck than the stews.  And don't the gravy foods have more carbs?  I also wish my store carried more flavours of the Wild Calling.  They have the Bison, Rabbit, Duck and Salmon. Wild Calling also makes Cow, Turkey and Pheasant.  I want to avoid fish as much as possible and I read that cats should primarily be fed foods with "feathers and big ears" because that is what they'd eat in the wild.  A cat wouldn't eat a cow or bison.  I don't really care all that much if they get some beef or fish.  But I do try to keep poultry as the majority.

Any reason they don't make mouse-flavoured canned food?  I know that's gross for us but a cat would really like it!  I don't see why they can't raise mice and rats for pet food when they are raised for laboratories.

Anyways, my snobs ate the leftovers from yesterday.  I just made sure to give a small scoop each.  They were still hungry afterwards so I gave about a 1/4 cup of kibble to share.  I guess I have to keep that back and forth pattern--have new flavours for each meal and then bring back the leftovers for the next day.

My answer to your gravy question would be: most of the time but not always. Tiki's foods (especially Gourmet Carnivore) have lots of slurpy juice (I think @bonepicker picked the right word for that... juice) but there isn't any carby stuff in that food. And Weruva's Cats in the Kitchen cans have a sort of gel/aspic/glop-like stuff that's not too carby, either. Beyond avoiding grains, I don't buy foods that are thickened or otherwise enhanced with ingredients like peas (in various guises), potato (starch) or tapioca. Well, except one Soulistic pouch food that has chicken and pumpkin that's thickened with tapioca: I drain off most of the sauce! Nutro Natural Choice's minced and sliced foods are also low-carb. Just watch out for those breakfast scrambles!
I'm sure there are a few others low-carb gravy foods but those are the ones we feed; I also avoid carrageenan, which narrows our choices a lot.

I wish our cats liked Wild Calling! It's reasonably priced here and very decent food but the little foodies just looked at me like I was trying to ask them to dance "Swan Lake." They wouldn't go near it.

As a BTW, Weruva's Cats in the Kitchen, particularly the large cans, are usually reasonably priced ($1.79, I think) here but some of their other lines are super-expensive and more gravy (often carby and potato-based) than meat!

Good luck!

I switched my cats to the pate only. I put the cans in warm water for about 5 mins before opening. This seems to loosen the pate up so it's not a lump. My cats will lap the gravy but pick through the meat pieces often rejecting them.

My cats would like canned rare song birds with a mix of moths, mouse parts and a spider on top. My husband would be entirely in charge of opening the can.

LOL!  My first cat ate houseflies.  Not sure those cans would sell very well.   She also ate pizza and mac n'cheese.  We had to guard that stuff with our lives otherwise she'd snatch it right up!

And I know some people here avoid peas but I can't really afford the kinds without it.  I try to get the kinds that only have one listed pea ingredient or is without potatoes.  I try to have one or the other.  But even then I can't always be super picky.  I still have to buy Friskies and the like to pad out the budget.

When my cats had their URI a few weeks ago I broke down and bought a bag of the cheapest greasiest crap on the shelf that I could bring myself to morally feed them. Because they love it. Friskies Surfin n Turfing. The first ingredient is ground yellow corn. It does however meat their minimum standards and it's the one thing I knew they would eat. I had to force feed Kitten twice. Not only is it not pleasant for either of us it's simply adding stress to an already ill cat. I suspect that there are millions of cats that have never seen groceries like some of them here get and they seem to live long happy lives. By the pound and feeding guides the higher the quality of cat food the less they need, they fuller they feel and in general the less litter box odor. Mine go to the basket the friskies is in and try and pry the container open. Its like Kitty Krak.

Sometimes we have to settle for a good food with a few things we don't care for so that the cats will actually eat it. Because we live in a rural area where the feed stores don't really carry cat anything TSC sells a decent small selection. They like the Blue Wilderness indoor dry. I also buy the wet food. The one food they will eat are a select variety if the Fancy Feast Pate or the Sheba Pate. All said and done for two cats we probably spend in excess of 100 dollars a month I prefer that it's in them rather than the trash.

Oh yeah. all of my cats are grazers and if they go back to the dish and any part of it is crusty they will sit there, look at the dish and look at me, then repeat. It's like, "Um, you can get rid of this and give me something else any time now".

I hate wasting food too. I have thrown out countless cans of high end food because they refused to eat. Sometimes 3 cans in a row were rejected before I finally gave them something "acceptable".

Sophie also hates it when I put anything on the kitchen table other than their food dishes. She will scratch at the offending item until I move it. If it takes me too long to respond, she'll push it onto the floor then when I go see what the noise was, she'll look at me like, "what? I didn't do anything! Your purse jumped off the table onto the floor"

This is her "innocent" face

Adorable

We've donated some pretty nice food to the local shelter plus we always take some new cat toys. That or we donate it to the Senior Center. The meals on wheels lady out here knows who has pets.

Mine would like medium rare porterhouse steak, grilled or roast chicken or grilled pork chops. Preferably served warm in these charming Waterford crystal bowls

That is so funny! We fed our last cat in a crystal dish (it was very cheap, though, fake cut crystal, definitely not Waterford!) when she was sick and it was hilarious to see it filled with gucky-looking raw chicken!

My
My cat hated that one, I gave it to the racoon, feral would not eat it either
My cats will only lick the juice off the canned food. So instead of wasting it I put it outside at night for the raccoons. I just hope it does not draw any ferals. I had my last two put to sleep last year because they were very sick. I had a feral colony and got them all sprayed and neutered 15 years ago. I'm just not able to start all over again.

You guys should check out Sheba Perfect Portions. Each pack has two 1.3 oz portions, and each portion has its own peel-back foil cover, so it's like giving a "fresh can" to your cats at every meal.

I've been feeding them to my cat, and he likes the beef, turkey, chicken, and occasionally salmon flavors. He's also one to turn up his nose at leftovers, and I've tried different ways of reheating the food, as well as those plastic seal caps for canned leftovers, but never with consistent results.

For him, one 1.3 oz portion is lunch, the second is dinner, and then he gets a snack later at night and I put some dry food (not a lot) in his bowl for overnight/morning munchies. I try to be mindful of the "free eating" that could lead to obesity, so the overnight dry portion is just enough that he can eat if he's hungry and doesn't wake me up at 4 a.m.

WHISKAS does the perfect portions as well.  WALMART recently had them on sale for 60 cents but they are now back at 88 cents.  Still not bad but the regular pate is 70 cents.  And my kittens love WHISKAS so much that they will finish one off between them.   The only 5.5oz cans they will finish off between them in one sitting is the Wild Calling.  I found a store that sells them for 40 cents less than the one I normally frequent and they have almost all of the flavours.  I stocked up on the chicken and turkey.

My kittens recently turned up their noses at one of the Tiki Cat cans I ordered online.  They have now snubbed the tuna and crab and the tuna and calamari.  They seem to really like the sardine cutlets but Tiki Cat isn't sold anywhere near here and I just can't justify the shipping prices.  The cans themselves are just too expensive for something so hit and miss with them.  And money is really tight with us.  I will spend the money on Wild Calling because I know they love it so much.  Between that and the WHISKAS they should be OK.  I have noticed they don't especially care for Natural Balance.  They eat it, but it takes some convincing and spreading it out several meals with other kinds in between.
