I recently rescued a little black kitten and he's my first so I'm learning how to be a cat owner. His name is Rammus (boyfriend's choice and it stuck :/) and he's 4 months old. He's super cuddly and affectionate, he insists on licking people's faces and occasionally tries to nurse (0_0). II feel like he's oddly large for his age though. He's 5.5 lbs and 9 in tall at the shoulder. Anyone have any idea how large he is gonna get? Here's a pic for reference:

Welcome to TCS! [emoji]128522[/emoji]. Here you will find lots of black cat lovers, including me. I've had 4 and am currently Mom to 18 pound Paul. I can't answer your question about how big Rammus will get - my cats were mostly adults when I adopted them - but hopefully someone who knows more about kittens will chime in. Meanwhile - your Rammus is a real beauty and a wonderful addition to your family. He sounds really sweet!

Thank you and he is a real sweetheart. He's always reaching out to be held and can never get enough pets. :3

He's very handsome! I love black cats. We have one named Severus.

You mentioned he's a rescue, is it possible he's older than 4 months? That might account for the size. He looks like he could be 6-8 months old to me.

If he is definitely 4 months old, you can expect him to roughly double in size when he reaches full adulthood.

Hi, I love Severus' name! He's just started losing teeth so he should be somewhere around 4 months, at least according to the internet. He might just end being huge, which is okay :) I'll love him regardless of how big or small he'll turn out to be.

Hello and welcome to TCS. A black cat will absolutely steal your heart! I think Rammus looks a lot like my Sgt. Pepper did when he was a kitten. Do you know for sure he is 4 months? Maybe he is a little older. Sgt. Pepper was probably the runt, so my comparison could be off because of that. I think he weighed about 6 or 7 lbs at a year. He is about 12.5 lbs now at 9 years old.

My other black cat is Jumbo. He is also about 12 lbs, but was 13.5 when I first found him in 2011. He is 8 years (give or take a year or 2). He was 11.8 at his checkup in May, which was a dramatic, unintentional weight loss. I'm trying fatten him back up a little. Sgt. Pepper is shorter in length than Jumbo. He's shorter than my calico too. It's hard to say how big Rammus will get, but somewhere in that 11 to 13 lbs may be likely in a few years if he stays healthy and doesn't overeat too much.

This is Sgt. Pepper a few weeks ago in my laundry.

This is Jumbo a few weeks ago looking for the other cats.

Aww so cute! The reason I think he's about 4 months is because of his records and because he has been losing his baby teeth. We found one on my boyfriend's pants last week after the two had been cuddling. Though I agree that he does look older.

My sister emailed me this picture the day Sgt. Pepper was found near her office. I thought he was 2 to 2.5 months since he was only about the size of her foot. I got him checked out by the vet within the week. They put him at 4 months old. His fur and face fluffed out more after I'd had him about 6 months. That's when he looked like your Rammus. I would put him at 6 or 7 months from your picture. But it's just a whole lot of estimating when you weren't there when they were actually born.

So darn cute! He will probably still grow a little more in the next 6 months or so until he's passed his first year. Whatever his size, he'll be adorable.

When Rammus licks you, it's a sign of affection and scent marking. It's what a momma cat does to her kittens. My calico and Sgt. Pepper lick each other to make the other one have the same scent. Jumbo doesn't smell right to them so they fight. But Sgt. Pepper and Jumbo both lick my hands, arms and face sometimes. If my girl does, it's usually because she wants treats.

Adorable! I had read that this was just kitten behavior, but hopefully he will continue to do this as he gets older. He runs up and tries to lick my face every opportunity he gets. I come from a dog background so it's something I'm used to. He licks the dog's nose sometimes as well and I've seen the dog give Rammus' head a good washing in return :)
