Hi! Switching to a low carb, wet/dry combo for my 4 year old twins. They weigh 10 pounds and 15 pounds. The heavier guy is a taller, bigger guy. I think the smaller one was the runt. ;) anyhow - I'm switching from Royal Canin selective kibble to Wellness core chicken canned and kibble. Not sure how much to feed them. The guideline says they should be getting like 2 cans a day which is a lot. My cats won't eat more than 1/4 can a sitting. So how much kibble do I supplement with? Plus - they aren't too keen on this kibble (I'm switching slowly). Any suggestions? Should I try other kibble? Wet? What ratio?

I feed wellness wet and dry to all of my cats.  I recently tried the Core wet and they hated it and they never liked the Core dry either.  They do however love the Chicken and Herring and Turkey and Salmon wet food and I feed the Healthy Weight Wellness dry.  My cats get 1/4 can twice a day ( so 1/2 5.5 oz can for the day) and 3 T. dry food spread out throughout the day.  The Healthy weight dry food made a huge difference in my cats weight.  I had to mix it at first with their regular dry as they didn't love it, but now they are both fine with it.

My cats are both males and both weigh about 10 lbs.  They did weigh as much as 12 lbs last year, but with the healthy weight dry it made a difference.

Cats are like people in how much they should eat.  Some can eat more than others
I've got 2 males, one weighs 9.5 lbs, the other weighs 14 lbs.  They are 1 day apart in age.  I actually feed the smaller one MORE that the larger one because he burns more calories.  So...there is really no way we can tell you exactly how much you should be feeding YOUR furkids.  Just be aware that the cans and bags usually are WAY high in telling you what you need to feed.  If everyone went by those guidelines, their cats would be obese.

Maybe this article will help you out:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/how-much-food-should-i-feed-my-cat

Oh, BTW, my cats didn't like Wellness CORE kibble either, when I was feeding kibble.  Now, ONE likes one flavor of CORE canned.  NONE of them like any other Wellness canned foods.

I think Wellness kibble is okay, but if you can afford better feed better, especially if they aren't really liking the kibble. I'm a big fan of Orijen. My cats eat both Orijen Cat & Kitten and Ziwipeak air dried. Ziwipeak is really expensive and more of a jerky type kibble than actual kibble (because its air dried meat). But Orijen is great. They also have a sister company called Acana that makes good food too thats slightly cheaper.

I just figure out how many calories they're eating in wet food (or in my cats case raw) and then supplement the rest with kibble. It's easy to figure out how many calories are in most kibble because its right on the bag.
