Hello! Exactly one week ago I found two kittens. The humane society said they were healthy, and I took them to the vet the next day and they guessed their age to be 3-4 weeks. I am guessing on the older side (I've been doing a lot of research!) they love the bottle, playing together, and sleeping :) as for my list of questions:

1. They are eating KMR, I have tried blending in kitten food (lotus brand) because they don't show any interest in wet food, (off my finger or mixed with milk). Yesterday was the first day they had it and actually ate it from the bottle. Any suggestion on introducing new food? They are pretty picky, I just want them to eat on their own when I go to work.

2. They still have diarrhea which I attribute to the diet change since before they were living on the streets. How long should I expect them to have diarrhea? I've also noticed a tiny bit of blood in their stools. I called the vet and they didn't think it was an issue since they are eating and playing like usual. Has anyone else noticed this in their cats?

3. When they poop, it gets all over their legs. Any suggestions there? I try to wipe/rinse them, but I can't do this every single time

4. They are litter box trained, but we occasionally get poop on the carpet from their legs. Can anyone recommend a safe carpet cleaner?

5. When should I introduce catnip? It comes with all the scratchers, I just haven't used it because they are so young.

6. When I am around I find that they will eat, nap, play and want to eat again (about 2 hours after eating). I always let them eat but I'm scared of over feeding them. I also don't want to get them used to it because when I work I can't feed them every 2 hours

7. Is it safe to use windex around them?

I know I asked a ton of question! If you could respond to maybe 1 or 2 that would be awesome! I don't expect anyone to answer every question. Thank you all in advance!!

Re your work.  Out in the wild, the mom is seldom able to feed them exactly on the hour, sharp.  She must get food herself, perhaps hunt.  She leaves them hours and hours...

Of course, with such friends you really dont need enemies, its one of the reasons many kittens do perish in the nature...

Anyways, if they are healthy, no problems, they will manage to be without food several hours, as long as they are comfortable, and the total food amount in the 24 hours, is what they shall have.

As Handsome tells, ist practically impossible to overfeed a kitten.  But its fully possible to underfeed one... For example giving it a scheme OK for a 2 weeks, but not longer sufficient for a 3 weeks kitten...

As they grow, they shall have more...

You'll need to at least leave kitten chow out for them and a dish of water while you are at work, as kittens need to eat around the clock.

While they have diarrhea you may want to leave them with food, water, and litter in a bathroom during your work hours. It will be easier to clean up any mess.

They will need to be de-wormed if they've been living on the streets. They may also have a bacterial infection in their intestines and need antibiotics to clear it up. This could be the reason for the diarrhea and the blood. A vet visit is in order as diarrhea is not healthy for them.

Thank you for taking them in.

Thank you all for the responses! This site is so helpful! I've been doing a ton of research on kittens but sometimes I can't find a straight answer so thank you all :) I will definitely leave them with food, water, litter box and a bed. I'm going to try and get my sister to feed them while I'm at work.
