Have you tried posting him on Facebook to see if there are any takers? You'll want to make sure he's going to a good home of course, but a lot of the time if you post him on your personal page or a local sale page, you'll get some hits. You may also ask your local shelter/veterinarian to post his picture on their pages, if they have one. I know that's something our local offices do. You may also ask your neighbor to take him back, since you just got him yesterday. And I know allergies suck, since I have them myself, but you may stick it out for a week or so to see if they resolve, though I understand that you may want to avoid anymore attachment.

I am so sorry.  I would recommend checking with no-kill shelters in your area.  My cousin has a severe cat allergy, but is under the treatment/advice of a medical doctor so that her children can have cats.  I wish you all the best.

Before you try that....is it possible to give it some time? I am also very allergic to cats but we have many. Your body will actually adjust to tolerate a particular cat if you are around them daily. Within a week or two your symptoms should subside and within a month it's likely you won't have an allergic reaction to him anymore. In the meantime, if it's possible you can take an antihistamine to manage your symptoms during the transition. It works for me every time a new cat is introduced, but within a couple of weeks I'm fine.

Is he neutered?  If not, do so asap.  Fertile cats are more bad for allergics than neuters...

Is there somebody non allerigic in the household who can handle him?

To bathe him / shower with plain lukewarm water once a week do helps a lot.

A quick version of this, is to swipe of him with a damped towel...

Air out the home as much as you can.  Having an air-cleaner with hepa-filter helps much..  You yourself wash  hands after cuddling him, not touching eyes nor mouth before you washed hands...

Such.

Of course, if you are astma allergic, you must have prepared good anti-astma medicines, to broke off an upcoming astma attack...  Have several such handy, so you will find them even if in full panic with an astma attack ongoing.

Not that I do recommend an asthma allergic to have cats whom you are allergic too - its really dangerous - but I do know some do try anyways to have a cat.

And its important to lessen down the risks, if so.

Agreed....asthmatic allergics should be more cautious if cat dander is a major trigger. If it's not asthma though, I think you could keep him (if you wanted to) and that your body would adjust.

If you absolutely must give him up, please be sure to go through a local rescue or no-kill shelter. If you post an ad on Craigslist or something similar yourself, be sure to charge a rehoming fee unless the adopter is someone you know personally. The rehoming fee is to make sure the person adopting is invested and wiling to take care of the kitty. Posting ads for "Free to good home" pets is ill advised these days....people take "free" pets and for abusive reasons. If you've taken him to the vet for any vaccinations or treatments then the rehoming fee could be to help reimburse you some of that expense.
