New here and New to cats.

HI,

I'm joining here to learn more about cats behavior and needs so our new guy can have a good long life with us.

I have a 1.5 year old cat from a rescue/foster. Never had a pet other than fish.

This is Tig (for now as my kids can't decide on a new name).

Hello and welcome! You certainly found the right place to learn more about cats. I think Tig is a cute name. I'd go with it unless you find something else that really fits his personality more.
