Hello! I'm now the owner of a new kitten, about 5 weeks old. Neighbor had a stray give birth under her porch and a few got the other four. My 11 yr. old son came home with her all excited as she eats kitten food and going in the litter box.

I went out at 9 pm last night and got her kitten food, litter box/litter.

I really hate to say I'm not able to financially give her the care she's going to need. Poor thing has fleas and going to need shots soon and I'm a recent breast cancer patient and though I'm glad I'm cancer free now, I'm having to find work soon now that school has started again.

Where can I look for help with getting 'Delilah'as my son has named her the medical help she needs. I just do not have any more extra money.

I live in Jacksonville, FL.

Thanks for any advice!

Take you for taking this kitten in.  Here is a link to the Humane Services in Jacksonville, FL  They have affordable care including vaccines and spay/neutering.

the fleas need to be dealt with.  Advantage II is very good, some say it is too pricey but cheaper flea meds do not always work. the kitten needs to be 5 lbs at least.   You can begin by giving the kitten a bath in blue dawn dish soap.  Do not submerge the kittens head in the water.  Begin by making a soapy ring of dawn and water around the kittens neck to keep the fleas from going on the head.  Wash the rest of the kitten with the dawn and rinse. Leave the soap on for a few minutes to kill the fleas.  Dry the kitten.  You will probably need to do this again in a few days.  You will also need to treat the kittens bedding.

Thank you Handsome Kitty for the link. I found a website here for No more homeless pets. I'll call them Tuesday. And get her seen to soon.

I appreciate the tip about the fleas. Poor thing, I've seen a few on her.

Right now she's under my sons bed but likes to sleep in a clothes bin on folded clothes. I've made her her own from a few old blankets.
