How many hours before an xray should my cat have her last meal?

My cat is going in to be anaesthetised and have xrays tomorrow, the vet has said not to feed her for 18 hours before, my poor girl will be soooo hungry as if she is not home until tomorrow afternoon then she will not have eaten for over 24 hours, is there a bit of leverage there?

I'm not going to disagree with your vet because i don't know the particulars of what they are looking for etc, but if there is wiggle room, it should be in a consultation (by phone is fine) with your vet, and not with anyone here.  It is not safe for your cat for us to negotiate with what your vet directed.
