Tapeworms & pooping outside of litter box

Hello, I have been noticing little sesame looking remnants wherever my cat Lacey lays. I have read online that those may be a sign of tapeworms.  At the same time. she has seem to be defecating outside of her litter box quite often lately. Could tapeworms be a cause of that behavior? (Just trying to solve the issue of pooping outside of the box. I do have a call in for the vet for this Tuesday :/) Thank you.
