My son and I feed the cats on our street.  This older man across the street says he claims 4 of them but him and his wife don't feed them near as often as we do.  There was a 5th cat he claimed and he said his dog accidently got out and killed that cat.  Well about the cat in question.  She's the prettiest tiny little multi-haired cat and she has this really funny face - I call her "Funny Face."  Well she had a very wet mouth for some reason the other night.  Then yesterday evening I noticed her teeth were jetting out on one side.  So pretty little Funny Face is even more of a funny face now.  She didn't seem like she was in any pain - her mouth just looked a little crooked and weird with the teeth on once side turning sideways.  I'm very worried about her.  We are going to be moving probably into another house at the end of the month.  We had planned on taking Funny Face with her but we are poor; we are to poor to afford a vet.  There are a couple raccoons loose also.  I don't know if the raccoons are harming these cats or if the old man is letting his dog get to the cats.  What should I do about Funny Face?  Actually what should I do about all the poor cats?

And also their have been kittens.  Some of the kittens disappear.  There were 2 Calico kittens not long ago and they are no longer around.  Of that same litter there was a fluffy orange colored kitten - that kitten is missing also.  Within the past few weeks Funny Face was pregnant - not far enough along to have her kittens but then all the sudden she is not pregnant anymore.  I don't get what happened with that.  And there is a Calico cat - 1 of the 5 cats the man said he claimed - that little cat was pregnant and all the sudden not pregnant anymore either.  Neither of the 2 cats were ready to have their kittens.  I wonder did they just miscarry the kittens or what.  Another of the 5 cats is a cat we call "Fatty."  He use to be fat but now he is allot slimmer.  His ear got hurt - now his ear is bent.  One of his legs was hurt to and he walks with a limp.  There are a couple feral cats also.  My son doesn't want me to call animal control and have all the cats sent to the shelter; he thinks they will kill them.  But the female cat keeps having babies and who knows what becomes of them.  Any advice on what I should do about all the cats?

Hello @Lisa Sc

That's a really sad situation. Unfortunately outdoor kittens don't live very long. They are preyed on by other animals or usually die from disease or accidents. Very few outdoor kittens make it to their first birthday.

Your neighbour claims that these cats are his, but he isn't taking very good care of them and letting his dog kill them is just animal abuse.

One thing you could do is contact Alley Cat Allies or see if there are any groups doing TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) in your area. TNR groups will spay and neuter the cats, which will prevent any more kittens as well as cutting down on the amount of disease and injury caused by intact cats fighting for mates and mating with each other.

As for Funny Face, she sounds like she needs to see a vet. Cats can hide pain really well. I'm currently taking care of a FIV+ cat who has a horrible gum infection and will be having all of her teeth removed in a few days, but she still purrs and does her best to eat in spite of this. I think Funny Face should see a vet as soon as possible, injuries and illnesses are much easier and cheaper to treat the sooner you deal with them.

Here are a list of organisations that might be able to help you with vet costs.

God luck, keep us posted on how everything goes.
