Hello all,

Does anyone have any experience with their cat-baby having pain post dental surgery up to 2 weeks after the surgery? My little guy had a tooth fall out  (of course he hid his pain so well that I had no idea his teeth were that bad!). So, I then had a dental cleaning and he had two teeth extracted. I no longer trust my vet because he was at the vet six months prior and the vet looked in his mouth and didn't mention that he should have a dental cleaning, just that we should "keep an eye on it." I would have been more proactive if I knew it was so urgent! Now, the vet sent us home after the surgery with a round of antibiotics but didn't say anything about how he should be feeling, brining him back for a checkup, or anything that could possibly go wrong.

I've got an appointment with a new vet for next week, but my little guy just seems like he's still uncomfortable. Is this normal? Of course, if anything gets worse I'll bring him to my old vet sooner or the emergency clinic, but I just want to make sure a little mouth discomfort isn't unheard of post teeth extraction.

Any advice SO welcome. Thank you :)

So sorry about no replies to your thread and question and I see it has been five day now. How is your cat doing? I think it can be quite common for some lingering pain even a couple of weeks after extractions. Sometimes, the antibiotics can make a kitty feel unwell also. What was the antibiotic given? I think your new vet visit is coming up quite soon and hope that your kitty is feeling better and that you like this new vet. Let us know how things are going. :hugs: :rub: :vibes::vibes:

I, too, am sorry no one responded to your thread. Have you see the new Vet yet?  Was there anything wrong?

I will say that one of my cats had FOUR teeth removed during one of his dentals, and he acted like nothing happened at all.  Our dentist advised to feed soft food for a few days, and our guy wanted nothing to do with that.   At the time, we fed kibble, and by golly, that's what Sven wanted.  So I called our Vet and asked if it was ok to feed him that since he wouldn't eat anything else, and she said "sure".  So we did, and HE ate like a champ.

Hopefully your check-up went well and everything is fine.
